Dakota Physical Therapy plan approved
Dakota Physical Therapy has been given the go-ahead to build a new, larger facility in Mitchell.
The Mitchell Planning and Zoning Commission approved Dakota Physical Therapy’s building plan during a meeting Tuesday in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The business, which is currently located at 1319 W. Havens Ave., plans to construct a new building at 910 S. Edgerton St., near County Fair and Wesley Acres.
In an interview with The Daily Republic after Tuesday’s meeting, Josh Moody, co-owner of Dakota Physical Therapy, said planning for the project has been ongoing for about a year.
“We’re bulging at the seams in our current space,” Moody said. “We need a bigger space with a little more functional setup to meet our needs.”
The new facility, Moody said, will be roughly twice the size of Dakota Physical Therapy’s current facility, with larger offices and examination rooms. A small swimming pool, which Moody said will be used for aquatic therapy for patients recovering from certain types of surgeries, is also included in the plan.
Moody said he and co-owner Steve Van Genderen bought Dakota Physical Therapy in 2005 from the business’ previous owner, who established the business at its current location in the late-1990s.
With winter approaching, Moody couldn’t say with certainty whether construction on the new facility will begin this fall or next spring.
“We’re running out of time,” he said. “The weather really is going to make a difference on that.”
Either way, construction on the project is expected to take about seven months, Moody said.
