Daily Republic wins top awards for print edition, website
PIERRE -- Best in print, best online.
The Daily Republic has the best print edition among the state’s small dailies and the best newspaper website among all South Dakota daily newspapers, according to contest judges.
The print edition of the Mitchell newspaper won the General Excellence award in its division of the South Dakota Newspaper Association’s Better Newspapers Contest for the fifth consecutive year. The Daily Republic also won Best Website in a category open to all daily newspapers.
The contest results were announced Friday and Saturday at the newspaper association’s annual convention in Pierre. The contest period was the 2013 calendar year.
In contest categories that are split by circulation divisions, including General Excellence, The Daily Republic is judged against newspapers in Brookings, Huron, Madison, Pierre, Spearfish, Watertown and Yankton.
In all, The Daily Republic won 30 awards for its news and editorial content and advertising. Points are awarded for each award, and The Daily Republic won the Sweepstakes award in its division for accumulating the most points.
