Dell Rapids 72, Parkston 54

Ty Hoglund scored 23 points to lead Dell Rapids to a 72-54 win over Parkston at the Culver’s/DWU Boys’ Basketball Classic Saturday at the Corn Palace.


Riley Schmidt added 20 points for the Quarriers, while Cody Nielsen and Zach White chipped in with 17 and 10, respectively. DR shot 31-of-51 from the field and 7-of-11 from the free-throw line, while committing nine turnovers.

Wes Genant scored a team-high 12 points for the Trojans, while Spencer Lucas added 11 points. Parkston outrebounded the Quarriers 23-20, while shooting 17-of-40 from the field and 17-of-20 from the free-throw line.

Parkston (12-6) plays Mount Vernon/Plankinton Friday in Mount Vernon, while Dell Rapids (11-7) plays Sisseton Tuesday in Dell Rapids.

James Valley Christian 64, White River 62

The top two teams in Class B boys; basketball played a classic Saturday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.

No. 2 James Valley Christian (17-1) pulled out a 64-62 win over No. 1 White River (14-3) in the final game of the Culver’s/DWU Boys’ Basketball Classic.

Andrew Ulvestad scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead JVC, while Nathan Wedel added 18 points and eight rebounds in the win. The Vikings shot 24-of-52 from the field and 13-of-19 from the free-throw line, while committing just five turnovers.

Four Tiger players scored in double figures, led by Christian Bartlett with 17 points. Bartlett added 10 rebounds for the double-double. Tre Iyotte added 15 points, while Justin Prue and Link Tucker scored 13 and 10, respectively. The Tigers won the rebounding battle 31-26, while shooting 25-of-49 from the field and 6-of-10 from the free-throw line. White River turned the ball over 12 times.

White River plays New Underwood Friday in New Underwood, while JVC plays No. 4 Sanborn Central/Woonsocket today in Huron.

Aberdeen Roncalli 63, Pine Ridge 35

Aberdeen Roncalli took control early and easily defeated No. 3 Pine Ridge at the Culver’s/DWU Boys’ Basketball Classic Saturday at the Corn Palace.

Four Cavaliers scored in double figures led by Layne Holzer with 16 points, while Brayden McNeary added 15 points and six rebounds. Zach Andera and Zach Schaefbauer each chipped in with 10 points in the win. AR shot 19-of-43 from the field and 16-of-21 from the free-throw line, outrebounding PR 34-27.

The Thorpes were led by Jacob Brown with 10 points. PR shot 15-of-48 from the field and 2-of-4 from the field. The Thorpes had 16 turnovers, while the Cavaliers had 15 turnovers.

AR (15-2) plays Groton Area today in Aberdeen, while PR (15-2) plays Little Wound Tuesday in Kyle.

Potter County 59, Mount Vernon/Plankinton 54

Deric Denning scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Mount Vernon/Plankinton, but the Titans lost 59-54 to Potter County at the Culver’s/DWU Boys’ Basketball Classic Saturday at the Corn Palace.

Cody Renken added nine points for Class A MVP, while Tate Deinert contributed seven points and seven rebounds in the loss. The Titans shot 19-of-42 from the field and 13-of-19 from the free-throw line, while outrebounding PC 30-26.

The Class B Battlers were led by Caleb Meinke with 18 points, while Mitchell Hinckley added 2 points and eight rebounds. PC shot 23-of-55 from the field and 8-of-9 from the free-throw line.

MVP (9-8) plays Bon Homme Tuesday in Mount Vernon, while PC (16-2) plays Ipswich Thursday in Ipswich.
