Corsica/Stickney blanks Parkston Bullheads 9-0

PARKSTON -- Kris Menning pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts for the Corsica/Stickney Horned Frogs in a 9-0 win over the Parkston Bullheads 9-0 in an elimination game at the District 5 amateur baseball tournament Tuesday at The Pond in Parkston.

Branson Tolliver had two doubles and Menning added a double and two hits to lead the Horned Frogs.

Eric Norden had a double to lead the Bullheads.

Corsica/Stickney plays the Parkston Mudcats to earn a spot at the Class B state amateur tournament at 6 p.m. Thursday at The Pond in Parkston. The Bullheads are eliminated.

Mount Vernon 9, Tripp/Delmont 1

PARKSTON -- Deric Denning struck out 16 batters to lead Mount Vernon over Tripp/Delmont in an elimination game of the District 5 amateur baseball tournament Tuesday at The Pond in Parkston.

Denning pitched a complete game giving up three hits. Nate Zens led Mount Vernon with two hits, including a double.

The losing pitcher was Tyler Payer. He gave up seven runs in the first inning before being relieved by Brandon Auch.

Mount Vernon plays Platte for a spot in the Class B state amateur tournament at 8 p.m. Thursday at The Pond in Parkston. Tripp/Delmont is eliminated.

Plankinton 10, Kimball/White Lake 5

PIERRE -- The Plankinton Bankers amateur baseball team clinched a spot at the Class B state amateur tournament with at 10-5 win over Kimball/White Lake Tuesday in Pierre.

The winning pitcher for Plankinton was Tyler Fernau, who pitched 6 ⅓ innings with seven strikeouts.

Travis Gant had two doubles and four RBIs and Josh Geppert added a double and four RBIs to lead the Bankers.

Taking the loss for Kimball/White Lake was Ryan Smith who pitched 5 ⅓ innings with two strikeouts.

Kimball/White Lake is eliminated from the District 3 tournament.

Chamberlain 6, Four Corners 3

PIERRE -- Chamberlain beat Four Corners 6-3 in the District 3 amateur baseball tournament Monday in Pierre.

Zach Zimprich had three hits while Ryan Randall, Evan Fleury and Chris Konechne each had two hits to lead Chamberlain.

The win clinched a spot for Chamberlain in the state amateur baseball tournament starting Aug. 6 in Mitchell. Four Corners is eliminated.
