Corsica, Stickney consolidation vote on Tuesday
CORSICA -- Voters in the Corsica and Stickney school districts will vote on consolidation Tuesday as the long talked about plan will finally go to the polls.
Voters can either vote for or against the measure, which would consolidate the two districts on July 1, 2015, if approved. Both districts need a majority of voters to support the plan to take effect. If either community votes against consolidation, the effort will be defeated.
Corsica district residents will vote at the Corsica High School band room, while Stickney voters will cast their ballots at the Stickney Community Building. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The new district would be called Corsica-Stickney and the consolidation plan calls for K-6 students to attend school in Stickney, while grades 7-12 would have classes in Corsica. The two communities are separated by 12 miles.
