Tickets for a Corn Palace show starring comedian Louie Anderson go on sale at 8 a.m. April 1.

Anderson will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, April 26. It is in part a benefit show for the Dakota Wesleyan University women's basketball team, which is co-sponsoring the show with the Corn Palace.

Anderson, who turns 60 on Sunday, has had a three-decade-long career in TV, nightclubs, casinos and, to a lesser extent, movies. He has also written several books, including his latest, "The F Word: How to Survive Your Family."

The St. Paul, Minn., native has long been a presence on talk shows, and recently added reality TV to his resume. He is one of 10 celebrities taking part in the Fox series "Splash," in which the stars jump into pools from diving boards after being coached by legendary diver Greg Louganis.

They are judged by both Olympic divers and the audience. In the series premiere this week, Anderson's raw emotion, honest answers to questions, and his willingness to work hard and dive from a higher level than he had originally planned charmed the audience and critics.

Anderson said he weighs more than 400 pounds, and views the show both as a way to get some national attention, and get in better condition. The show actually cares about him, he said, and that means a great deal to him.

The TV show has brought Anderson back into the national spotlight.

"I think it's great timing for the Corn Palace," said Corn Palace Director Mark Schilling.

"With 'Splash,' he's out there again," Schilling said. "And that's kind of why we did our announcement of that show today on radio. His name's back in front of the public."

Anderson has visited Mitchell before and has friends here, Schilling said.
