Colome, K/WL, Parkston teener teams win
CLEAR LAKE -- Kelly O' Bryan threw a complete-game two hitter to help the Colome 13-14 teeners defeat Garretson 6-0 at the VFW Class B state tournament Friday.
O'Bryan also recorded two singles. Colome finished the game with eight hits as a team.
Thieman recorded a triple and one single and Krumpus finished with three singles.
Colome (19-3) advances to the second round to take on Webster today at 6 p.m. in Clear Lake.
KIMBALL/WHITE LAKE 11, PLATTE 7
CLEAR LAKE -- Seth Kirsch had two-run double and a one-run single to help the Kimball/White Lake 13-14 teeners team beat Platte 11-7 Friday at the VFW 13-14 Class B state tournament.
Kirsch also pitched for K/WL, allowing one run in three innings to earn the win. Dylan Mohnen also threw for K/WL He went four innings and gave up six runs.
Riley Hoffman started on the mound for Platte, giving up five runs on four hits in three innings. Xavier Marshall threw three innings in relief for Platte.
Hoffman led Platte with a triple and two singles, while Malachi Girton finished with a single and a double for Platte as well.
K/WL (19-3) plays the winner of the first-round game between Canova and Clear Lake today. Platte (14-9) plays Flandreau today at 12 p.m. in Clear Lake.
PARKSTON 6, DELL RAPIDS 5
VERMILLON -- The Parkston 13-14 teeners rallied to score three runs in the top of the seventh to defeat Dell Rapids 6-5 in the VFW 13-14 Class A state tournament Friday.
Alex Scott scored the game winning run after a balk was called. Parkston scored its first two runs of the inning after Scott hit a two-RBI double.
Scott was also the winning pitcher for Parkston, giving up three runs on three hits in three innings.
Kyler Holzbauer threw four innings, allowing two runs on two hits for Parkston. Dawson Semmler led Parkston at the plate with two hits.
Parkston (20-3) plays Vermillion at 8 p.m. today.
MADISON 4, TYNDALL 1
VERMILLION -- The Tyndall 13-14 teener team fell to Madison 4-1 Friday in the first round of the VFW 13-14 Class A state tournament.
Chase Kortan was the losing pitcher, striking out 13 in six innings. Collin Mann pitched the final inning.
Kortan had a triple and single, and Cole Goehring had a single in the loss.
Both teams had three hits. Madison didn't have any errors, while Tyndall had three.
Tyndall faces Harrisburg at noon today.
