Churches team up to show poverty documentary

The Anew United Church of Christ and St. Mary's Episcopal Church, both of Mitchell, are teaming up to show a documentary about poverty.

The documentary, titled "The Line," is part of a broader campaign to bring light to the new faces of poverty in the aftermath of the Great Recession. Bread for the World, in partnership with Sojourners, has produced the 40-minute film. It uncovers the emerging and entrenched faces of poverty in the United States -- such as a former banker and single father in the suburbs who now relies on a food pantry and an aging Louisiana fisherman whose shrimp business has been devastated by the recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

The showing will be at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 214 W. Third Ave., Mitchell.
