Children's advocate group earns certification
The First Circuit CASA program in Mitchell has been awarded certification by the National Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Association.
This certification recognizes that First Circuit CASA is in compliance with National CASA's standards for quality child advocacy.
The First Circuit CASA program was started in November 2002. Patrick T. Smith, circuit court judge, said "I can tell you from personal experience both as a prosecutor and now as a circuit court judge that the CASA program is a great benefit to children in our communities, and offers much needed assistance to the court system in dealing with at-risk kids."
