Charles J. Langle

Charles J. Langle, 88, of Emery died Tuesday July 15, 2014 at Diamond Care Center in Bridgewater. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Clayton SD. Burial will be in St. Peters Lutheran Cemetery in Clayton. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Monday with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Hettinger-Bittner Funeral Chapel in Emery.

Charles J Langle was born April 29, 1926 at Clayton SD to William John and Caroline (Harnisch) Langle. He was the 4th of five children. He grew up on the family farm and attended Clayton #65 school. He was baptized and confirmed at Saint Peters Lutheran Church at Clayton. During 1936-37 he spent time helping with the farm while his father recovered from a heart attack.

He had a lifetime love of the outdoors and all animals especially horses. In 1945 he served in the US Army for four months and then came home to the family farm. In 1951 he again served with the Army until August and returned home to farm as his father had again suffered a heart attack. On August 31, 1951 he married Helen Fuoss at the Salem Lutheran Church at Parkston. To this union two sons were born. In addition, the young family shared in the care and company of his parents and sister, Shirley. He was involved with farming near Clayton his entire life and was a lifelong member of Saint Peters Lutheran Church and the American Legion. His hobbies included reading and working draft horses. He enjoyed visiting with the elderly collecting stories of South Dakota homesteading days. In 2010 due to health problems, he entered Diamond Care Center in Bridgewater SD where he resided until he was called home at the age of 88 years.

He is survived by his son, Lonald (Donna) Langle of Emery SD; one daughter-in-law, Hilda Langle of Sioux Falls SD; four grandchildren: Lewis Langle, Melissa (John) Lee, Laura (Mark) Carpenter and Lance (Miranda) Langle and four great-grandchildren: Brian, Will, Sam and Leila.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen of 55 years; one son, Lloyd; his parents; four sisters, two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law.
