PIERRE (AP) -- A study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that South Dakotans aren't eating as many vegetables as people in other states.

The media reports that less than 20 percent of people in the state consumed vegetables three or more times per day in 2009, the last year studied. That fell several percentage points than the rate in neighboring states for the same year. In North Dakota, nearly 25 percent of people ate vegetables three times a day. In Minnesota, the rate passed 26 percent.

State nutritionist Kristin Biskeborn told the newspaper that the findings are "quite dismal." She says the state's Department of Health is studying why the rates are so low.
