Cattle killed in early morning crash
Three cattle were killed early Tuesday morning in Hutchinson County after being hit by a semi truck.
Sheriff Jim Zeeb said an Affiliated Foods semi was traveling on Highway 81 about 1 ½ miles north of Highway 18 when it hit three black cattle around 3:30 a.m. One cow was dead when Zeeb arrived, he said. Zeeb had to put down the other two cattle after the owner was notified. Local farmers helped get the cattle off the road and into the ditch. A rendering truck picked up the dead cattle later, Zeeb said. He was on scene until 5:30 a.m.
The semi was not functional after the crash and Affiliated foods towed the vehicle. The driver did not suffer any injuries and no citations will be issued, Zeeb said.
