Catching up: Wessington Springs native Kraft finishes top five at XC meet

South Dakota State junior cross country runner Drew Kraft was one of the top finishers for the Jackrabbit men at the 2013 Griak Invitational Saturday in Falcon Heights, Minn.

Kraft, who graduated from Wessington Springs in 2011, had a final time of 25 minutes, 48.8 seconds, which was fourth among SDSU runners. The Jacks finished with 343 total points and No. 4 BYU won the team title.

SDSU competes at home Friday when it hosts the annual SDSU Classic at the Edgebrook Golf Course in Brookings. The women will run at 6 p.m., and the men will run at 6:30 p.m.

- Mitchell natives Justin and Jason Greenway each recorded one tackle in Augustana’s 31-6 loss at St. Cloud State Saturday in St. Cloud, Minn.

Both are listed as sophomore running backs for the Vikings, and this was the second tackle of the year for Jason and the third for Justin in limited defensive action.

Augustana (2-2, 2-2 NSIC) returns home this weekend to face off with Wayne State (1-3, 1-3 NSIC) in another Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matchup. The game begins at 1 p.m. Saturday at Kirkeby-Over Stadium.

- University of South Dakota wide receiver Austin Koch, a senior, recorded three catches for 56 yards in a 24-10 loss to Western Illinois University Saturday in Macomb, Ill.

Koch, a former standout athlete at Bon Homme High School, had his longest grab of the season 29 yards in the loss and is third in catches among active Coyote receivers.

USD (1-3, 0-1 MVC) hosts Missouri State (1-4, 1-0 MVC) Saturday at the DakotaDome in Vermillion. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.

- Wagner native Tait Johannsen had three catches for 41 yards for the University of Sioux Falls Saturday in a 52-7 victory over Minnesota-Crookston at Bob Young Stadium. Johannsen is in his third season at tight end with the Cougars.

USF (2-2, 2-2 NSIC) travels to Marshall, Minn., Saturday to take on the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs.
