Catching up: Rietveld finishes top 20 in 800-meter run
Mount Marty freshman Berkley Rietveld, a 2013 graduate of Mitchell High School, was the third leg of the Lancers’ 4x800-meter relay team, which finished second overall at the Red Raider Open hosted by Northwestern University last weekend. Rietveld was also a member of the 4x400-meter relay team, which finished in the top 10. She also finished in the top 20 individually in the women’s 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 31.50 seconds.
Mount Marty competes at the Drake University Relays today through Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.
Vikings beat SMSU
Brian Duxbury chipped in two hits for the Augustana Viking baseball team in its 7-6 win over Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall, Minn., April 19. Duxbury, a Salem native and senior for the Vikings, had one run and one RBI in the win.
Augustana (31-10, 21-4 NSIC) sits in second place in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference standings with eight games remaining before the NSIC tournament May 7-10 in Sioux Falls. The Vikings travel to Wayne, Neb., to face Wayne State in two doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday.
Assmus finishes in top 15 in shot put
South Dakota State’s Shelby Assmus finished 15th overall in the women’s shot put at the Long Beach State Invitational on April 19 in Norwalk, Calif. Assmus’ throw of 43 feet 3 1/2 inches moved her into the finals in the event, where she placed 15th with the same mark in a field comprised of over 70 throwers. The Stickney native also competed in the women’s discus throw where she finished 34th with a toss of 138 feet, 6 inches.
Kroupa goes 1-for-3
for USF Cougars
Kimball native and University of Sious Falls junior Wesley Kroupa went 1-for-3 after coming in to pinch-hit in the Cougars’ 7-4 loss to Minnesota-Duluth at Harmodon Park in Sioux Falls April 19. Kroupa has appeared in 19 games for USF this season, batting .143 and with a perfect fielding percentage.
Sioux Falls (15-24, 9-17 NSIC) travels to Winona, Minn., for two doubleheaders against Winona State Saturday and Sunday.
Bormann takes 26th
at Augustana Invite
Jordan Bormann finished 26th in the individual standings for Augustana at the Augustana Spring Invite, helping the No. 25 Vikings to its second straight team title in the event. Bormann, a freshman and former Parkston standout, shot a 10-over par and finished with a score of 82.
Augustana travels to Morton, Minn., for the final two rounds of the NSIC Championships Friday and Saturday.
