Catching up: Horstman scores 8 for SDSU in tourney
South Dakota State’s Zach Horstman, formerly of Winner, had one of his best performances of the year Sunday at the Summit League Tournament in Sioux Falls, scoring eight points and grabbing two rebounds in the Jacks’ 71-50 win over Western Illinois.
The 6-foot-6 junior added two points on 1-of-2 shooting in SDSU’s semifinal loss to IPFW on Monday.
With the loss, SDSU falls to 19-12 on the season and awaits an invitation to a postseason tournament.
Bork sisters named MVC scholar athletes
Former Mitchell swimming standout Reva Bork, now a junior for the University of Northern Iowa, finished fifth in the prelims of the 1,650-yard freestyle at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships in Carbondale, Illinois. In the finals, Bork took 13th overall with a season-best time of 18:16.89.
Reva and her sister, Rhennetta, were also named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team, the league announced Feb. 27. Both have maintained a GPA above 3.80 as juniors majoring in biochemistry.
Paulson finishes senior season
for Minnesota State Mankato
Hillary Paulson, a senior for the Minnesota State Mankato women’s basketball team, scored four points, added four rebounds and four assists in 15 minutes of action in the Mavericks’ final win of the season, a 95-71 victory over the University of Mary March 2nd in the NSIC Tournament at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.
Paulson, a Freeman native, averaged 4.2 points and 2.6 rebounds per game for Mankato, who finished the season 23-6 overall and 18-4 in the NSIC.
Moore picks up hit in Northern
State loss to Hillsdale College
Freshman Courtney Moore, a 2013 gradate of Mitchell High School, was 1-for-3 for the Northern State softball team in a 3-1 loss to Hillsdale College Sunday in Winter Haven, Fla.
NSU (3-3) travels to Topeka, Kan., Wednesday to face Washburn.
