Catching up: Greenways place top 10 at Howard Wood

Augustana College sophomores Jason and Justin Greenway each finished in the top 10 of the men’s 200-meter dash in the college division of the Howard Wood Dakota Relays over the weekend in Sioux Falls. Jason finished fifth with a time of 21.90 seconds, while Justin’s time of 22.10 seconds put him in ninth on the leaderboard. The former Kernels also served as the second and third legs of Augustana’s sixth-place 4x100-meter relay team.
Justin, Jason and the rest of the Vikings travel to Winona, Minn., Friday and Saturday for the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships.
Nelson earns NSU honor
Former Mitchell Christian standout Mariah Nelson was named Northern State University’s Qdoba Scholar-Athlete of the Week, it was announced Monday. The honor is given to an NSU athlete each week who has a grade point average of 3.0 and higher and has excelled in his or her sport during the week.
Nelson, a junior, took home a pair of 10th-place finishes in the shot put and discus at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays Saturday to earn the honor this week. Also competing at Howard Wood for the Wolves was Stickney native Whitney Kuyper, who finished in 22nd in the women’s 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:18.06.
Northern nears the end of its outdoor season, traveling to Winona, Minn., Friday and Saturday for the NSIC Championships, the final meet before the Division II Championships.
Distance runner Van Dyke takes 15th at GPAC meet
Mitchell Christian graduate and Dordt College distance runner Christian Van Dyke finished in 15th place in the men’s 1,600-meter run at the Great Plains Athletic Conference track and field meet over the weekend in Crete, Neb. The freshman finished the race with a time of 4:12.54. As a team, Dordt finished in eighth place.
Mount Marty golfers lead team to fourth
Parkston native Logan Wagner and Delmont native Caitlyn Roth were the top two finishers for the Mount Marty College women’s golf team in the final GPAC qualifier of the season Monday at Fox Run in Yankton. The Lancers finished in fourth, while Dakota Wesleyan University took first. Wagner, a freshman, tied for seventh at the meet with a score of 81, while Roth, a senior, was two strokes behind and tied for 13th.
