Castlewood woman gets prison for $1.2M theft from water system
WATERTOWN (AP) — A Castlewood woman has been sentenced for embezzling nearly $1.2 million from her Watertown employer.
Judge Robert Timm on Wednesday sentenced 48-year-old Brenda Anderson to 15 years in prison, fined her $30,000 and ordered her to pay restitution to Sioux Rural Water System.
Timm says it's the most egregious case of embezzlement he's seen in his 27 years on the bench.
Anderson was the office coordinator for the rural water system from January 2005 through last November. She pleaded guilty to embezzlement.
