Carl Larson, Sioux Falls, SD, died September 3, 2013, at Sanford / USD Medical Center. He was 76.

Carl K. Larson was born December 26, 1936, at Ethan, SD, to Carl C. and Helen W. (Thurman) Larson. Although strapped with critical childhood health problems, he fought against the odds and became an accomplished high school athlete, running track and playing football and basketball for Ethan. He graduated from Ethan High School in 1955.

Carl was united in marriage to Rose D. Hofer on October 10, 1956, in Mitchell, SD. The couple remained in the Ethan / Emery area, where Carl farmed for a period of time. In 1963, Carl began his trucking career with MC Oil. He then worked for Herter's Sporting Goods and Porter Distributing. In 1985, the family moved to Sioux Falls. Carl drove for Dizco, Inc. for 21 years before retiring in 2006. After his retirement, Carl and Rose enjoyed fishing and camping at the Missouri River.

Throughout his life, Carl enjoyed the return of autumn when he could go pheasant and deer hunting. Carl was also an avid bow hunter. Creative and artistic by nature, he would often make his own arrows and fishing lures. In true South Dakotan fashion, Carl enjoyed woodworking, refinishing furniture, and pickup trucks.

Carl was a quiet, calm and patient man. A true gentleman and man of integrity, he maintained a solid work ethic throughout his entire life, and never let anything get in the way of providing for his family. His thoughtfulness, generosity and fighting spirit will be forever cherished.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Rose D. Larson, Sioux Falls, SD; daughters, Carla Bender (Gary), Mitchell, SD, Kim Lantos, Minneapolis, MN; sons, Craig Larson (Annette), Sioux Falls, SD, Kenn Larson (Julie), Titonka, IA; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Ron Larson, Freemont, NE;

sisters, Phyllis Mutziger (David), Mitchell, SD, and Sandy Nelson (Milt), Mitchell, SD. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Michael Lantos; and brother, Larry.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Friday September 6, 2013, at First Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, with burial at 3:00 pm at the Hillcrest Cemetery of Ethan, SD. Visitation begins at noon, Thursday, with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 Thursday evening at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Avenue, Sioux Falls.
