CA man sentenced for sex trafficking in Sioux Falls
SIOUX FALLS (AP) — A Los Angeles man who stopped in Sioux Falls to pimp two women on his way home from Minneapolis will spend more than a year in federal prison on a sex trafficking charge.
Thirty-three-year-old Joe Becker was arrested last August after a woman flagged down a police car and said she had been held against her will in a Sioux Falls motel room.
Becker said in court Monday that he got involved in pimping because he couldn't find work and was desperate for cash. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeff Clapper questioned that.
Becker pleaded guilty to transportation for the purposes of prostitution late last year in a deal that lowered his possible prison time to anywhere between 15 and 21 months. Judge Karen Schreier on Monday sentenced him to 15 months.
