Buddhist center set to open in Sioux Falls
SIOUX FALLS (AP) — The Wonderful Garden Buddhist Meditation Center is nearly complete in Sioux Falls.
About 100 members of a Vietnamese community in the city came together to establish the new center on Marion Road. They say the closest similar facility before now was in Sioux City, Iowa.
The meditation center represents an effort by the Vietnamese in South Dakota to renew their connection to their spiritual traditions and to extend those traditions to others.
The Argus Leader reports the project will wrap up next week. From noon to 3 p.m. May 25, the public is invited to a grand opening with traditional Vietnamese music and dances, dinner and Vesak celebration. Vesak is a fundamental Buddhist ceremony celebrated in May that honors the birth, enlightenment and passing of the Buddha.
