Brookings tops Marlin girls in state opener

WATERTOWN — Hallie Theodosopoulos scored nine goals to help the Brookings Rangers beat the Mitchell Marlins girls’ varsity hockey team 12-2 in the quarterfinals of the state tournament at the Maas Arena in Watertown Friday.

Theodosopoulos scored the first four goals of the game in the opening period, then teammate Kailey Schiesl added another. Mitchell got on the board in the second period with a power play goal from Haley Stahl assisted by Kylie Barrington. But Brookings answered with three straight goals, two from the stick of Theodosopoulos.

Stahl would score another goal in the second period.

Mitchell had nine shots on goal, while Brookings goalie Anne Jonas recorded seven saves.

The Marlins face the Huron All Stars in the consolation bracket at noon today.
