Bridge north of Bruce could cost $100K to repair
BROOKINGS (AP) -- A bridge crossing the Big Sioux River north of Bruce with a pothole that is growing "by the day" could cost more than $100,000 to repair.
The media reports that a new bridge would cost $1.5 million, but federal dollars will pay for 80 percent of that bill in 2017 if the bridge can be patched until then.
Brookings County highway superintendent Dennis Clark asked county commissioners for some guidance last week.
Clark says he needs a special designation of funds for the fix as the money is not in his budget. He says saving money by closing the bridge or leaving it as a one-lane route are not good options.
Commissioners agreed, and approved designing a temporary fix.
