ABERDEEN -- The North came into the night with the goal of getting Dakota Thorstensen a dunk.

Instead, it was a three-point barrage by the South in the second half that helped give the South squad a 97-93 win Tuesday night in the South Dakota Boys' All-Star game at the Northern State Barnett Center.

The North squad led 55-47 at the halftime break thanks to a balanced scoring effort. Drew Planteen, of Langford, and Trae VandeBerg, of Madison, led the way with nine points apiece for the North.

It was the South, however, that uncovered a third-quarter turnaround. Skyler Bertram (Chamberlain), Scott Van Winkle (Bon Homme) and Jake Anderson (Parker) drained three straight threes to pull the South to within one at 57-56.

"We're all pretty good shooters," said Jack Huether of Viborg-Hurley, who led the South squad with 21 points on 4-of-7 shooting from long range. "We had confidence in our shot. We just went out and shot the ball."

"The kids just felt like they outplayed them in the first half," said South head coach Clayton Steele, of South Central High School. "Just right at the end there, we kind of went cold at the end of the half and they got ahead of us."

Caleb Carr, of Huron, led the North with 20 points and nine rebounds, while VandeBerg added another 16 points. Jake Seales (Rapid City Central) had 13 points, while Planteen finished with 10 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots for the North.

In addition to Huether's 21 points, the South got 17 points each from Van Winkle and Diefendorf. Bertram came off the bench for an even dozen.
