Local firefighters responded to two blazes Tuesday afternoon within 10 minutes of each other.

The first fire started at 4:10 p.m. at Cabela's, 601 Cabela Drive. Assistant Fire Chief Paul Morris said a fifth-wheel trailer camper was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene.

Morris said officials were unsure what caused the fire in the camper, which was owned by tourists from Massachusetts. No one was injured, but two cats died in the blaze.

The second fire broke out at 4:20 p.m. at AKG North American Operations, 925 Quince St.

Morris said the fire was likely caused by an equipment malfunction.

He said firefighters fought the blaze inside and outside the building. "They were able to get it knocked down pretty quickly," Morris said.

Local fire officials called Mount Vernon firefighters for assistance with the AKG fire.

"It's a big building, and we called for the extra help in case the fire got away from us," Morris said.

There were no injuries from the AKG fire.
