Belle Fourche church to become historic site
BELLE FOURCHE (AP) -- The First Congregational United Church of Christ is waiting for the National Park Service to officially designate the Belle Fourche church as a historic site. The Black Hills Pioneer reported the congregation applied for a spot on the National Register of Historic Places, and the South Dakota State Historical Society accepted the nomination.
The church got its start in 1891 when a divinity student named C.H. Burroughs arrived in Belle Fourche and began holding church services at the railroad depot.
