This photo taken in June 1914 shows men digging a flow well on the Nicholson farm near Artesian. The well was 300 feet deep and had very hard water. Water was piped from the well to the stock tank and run constantly. The well-drilling rig was powered by a steam tractor. The barn in the photo was blown away in a tornado in 1924.
