BACK IN TIME: 1906 Corn Palace

Shown is the 1906 Corn Palace, which was the second palace to be built and was built in 1905 at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Main Street. The main entrance was facing Fifth Avenue. This Corn Palace was torn down when the current one was built at the corner of Sixth Avenue and Main Street. The Elks building is not pictured; it wouldn’t be constructed until 1908. Rumors exist that this building burned down, but no such thing ever happened to this or any other Palace. (Photo courtesy of the Mitchell Area Historical Society)
