Avera Queen of Peace receives $698,928 gift
Avera Queen of Peace Health Services in Mitchell announced this morning that it will receive $698,928 in funding over three years from The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust.
The money will be used to fund a rural health mobile screening project for digital mammography.
"This is an incredible gift for our organization and the people we serve," Queen of Peace president and CEO Tom Rasmusson said in a news release, "and this gift allows me to announce to the women in our 19-county area that digital mammography will be available on a scheduled basis in their community."
Former Mitchell police officer Walt Panzirer, a grandson of the late Leona Helmsley, is a trustee for the Helmsley Charitable Trust.
Later this morning, Sanford Mid-Dakota Medical Center in Chamberlain also plans to announce some major new funding.
