Authorities say Sioux Empire Fair a success

SIOUX FALLS (AP) — The manager of the Sioux Empire Fair says the annual fair that completed a nine-day run on Aug. 11 was a success.

The Argus Leader reported the books for the fair will not be balanced until the middle of September.

But fair manager Scott Wick says he expects the final figures will show attendance at this year's fair in Sioux Falls exceeded last year's.

Attendance last year was 289,507 in the first year of a three-year experiment with a fair that extends over two weekends. Last year's fair posted a profit of $116,951.
