Attendance and revenue up at Sturgis Rally
STURGIS (AP) — Sturgis city officials report that attendance and revenue at this year’s Sturgis Motorcycle Rally were up from last year.
The Black Hills Pioneer reports that an estimated 467,338 people attended this year’s rally in August, an increase of about 21,000 from 2012.
Officials estimate attendance at the rally by using a state Transportation traffic count, Mount Rushmore National Memorial’s traffic count and sales tax collections.
Taxable sales within the Sturgis city limits totaled an estimated $12 million this year.
The city’s revenue for this year’s rally is estimated at slightly more than $1 million, not including state and city sales tax collections.
