CHAMBERLAIN — Hudson Priebe has trained with the same intensity from the time he was an eighth-grader to his senior season.

“His goal is to improve off his times from last year and we need someone to push him at every track meet, which is a good problem,” Chamberlain track and field coach Jerry Rhodes said.

Priebe has pushed himself to improve every year and has started his final year as a Chamberlain Cub with a bang on the track.

Last week, Priebe qualified for the state track and field meet in four events at the Todd County Invitational, Chamberlain’s first meet of the season. He took first in three of those events, including 110-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash.

For his efforts, Priebe was named The Daily Republic’s athlete of the week, an award voted on by the newspaper’s sports staff.

Priebe recorded a time of 15.4 seconds in the 110 hurdles, 41.6 seconds in the 300 hurdles and 23.1 seconds in the 200. He finished in second place in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 2.25 inches.

“His turnover rate is really good over the hurdle and he’s got really good form,” Rhodes said. “He’s practiced a lot over the years and has improved his speed.”

In last year’s state meet, Priebe finished third in the 110 hurdles and second in the 300 hurdles.

Priebe gets another chance to improve his times today at the Corn Palace Relays. The event, which moved from Thursday to today, begins at 4 p.m. at Joe Quintal Field in Mitchell.
