DWU men’s soccer team shuts out Briar Cliff
SIOUX CITY, Iowa — The Dakota Wesleyan University men’s soccer team topped Briar Cliff University 2-0 Wednesday in Sioux City, Iowa.
The Tigers (9-6-2, 4-3-1 GPAC) got off to a quick start when Carlos Mora scored on a feed from Zach Schneider just 2:38 into the Great Plains Athletic Conference game.
Bryce Berletic put DWU up 2-0 on a goal in the 27th minute. Mike Haight had the lone assist.
The Tigers outshot the Chargers 18-10 in the win, with goalkeeper Alex Nelson making three saves in the shutout win for DWU.
The Tigers play their final regular season game against Concordia University at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.
Chargers score 3 second-half goals to top Wesleyan
SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Briar Cliff scored three goals after halftime en route to a 4-0 shutout victory over Dakota Wesleyan University Wednesday in Sioux City, Iowa.
The Tigers were outshot 12-5 by the Chargers in the Great Plains Athletic Conference loss.
Alex Sterling and Bailey Keller combined for the two Tiger shots on goal.
DWU falls to 4-11-2 overall and 1-7-1 in the GPAC.
The Tigers end their regular season with a match against Concordia University at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.
DWU volleyball secures four recruits for 2014
Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball coach Eric Viney announced this week that he has received commitments from four recruits to play for the Tigers in 2014.
Viney found three players from area high schools to join the Tigers next year.
Outside hitter Anna Mueller from Ethan joins the Tigers after earning four varsity letters with the Rustlers.
Anna Pazour of Pukwana, who currently plays for Kimball/White Lake, will arrive at DWU as a defensive specialist.
Winner defensive specialist Emily Richey, a Wewela native, has also committed to the Tigers.
Viney also has received a commitment from hitter Maxine Block of Pahoa, Hawaii.
MHS volleyball gets 4th seed in District 3AA
The Mitchell High School volleyball team is the fourth seed in the District 3AA tournament.
The Kernels (9-11) will play top-seeded Huron at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Huron Arena.
Aberdeen Central is the second seed and Pierre is the third.
