Area players to compete in SD high school all-star games
ABERDEEN -- Two hundred athletes and more than 20 coaches will descend on Aberdeen from Sunday to Wednesday for the 28th Annual South Dakota High School All-Star Games. They will be joined by high school coaches from across the state who will be attending the 63rd Annual South Dakota High School Coaches Association Clinic in Aberdeen.
The North All-Stars versus the South All-Stars girls basketball game will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Wachs Arena on the Northern State University campus. The boys game will follow at approximately 8 p.m.
The games will conclude Wednesday with the all-star volleyball match at 5 p.m. at Wachs Arena and the Blue vs. Red football game at 7:30 p.m. at Swisher Field on the Aberdeen Central High School campus.
The athletes, who graduated from high school this spring, were selected by the coaches associations.
The girls basketball game will feature a local standout, Miranda Ristau, from the Class B champions from Warner and Miss Basketball Macy Miller, of Mitchell. Heading up the boys basketball game will be Trae VandeBerg, the Class A Mr. Basketball and a member of the state champions from Madison.
Sioux Falls Lincoln athletes, Matt Wagner and Caden Quintanilla, will represent their state champion team in the football game. They will be joined by three members of Canton's championship team. State champion teams from Avon and West Central will have one player each.
The volleyball match will feature Class A Miss Volleyball, Jayde Bergmann, of Dakota Valley, and University of Iowa recruit Taylin Alm, of Mitchell.
