Area high school volleyball roundup: Bobcats top Cadets in five sets

NEW HOLLAND — Freeman Academy edged Dakota Christian 3-2 in high school volleyball action Tuesday.

Set scores were 25-12, 11-25, 23-25, 25-14, 15-8.

Freeman Academy, which won the JV game, was led by Bethany Wollman and Hannah Yoder, who had 10 kills apiece in the win. Yoder added three aces and Olivia Boese had four. Brooklyn Ries tallied five kills.

For the Cadets, Brooklyn Vander Pol had nine kills, four blocks and one ace. Kennedy Muckey recorded nine kills and three aces, while Abbi BaanHofman added seven kills, four blocks, two digs and one ace.

Dakota Christian (1-1) hosts Colome Thursday, while Freeman Academy (1-0) plays at Menno Thursday.

Wagner 3, Platte-Geddes 0

PLATTE — The Wagner Red Raiders swept Platte-Geddes 25-14, 25-10, 25-14 in high school volleyball action Tuesday.

Brianna Erickson had one ace and one block, Shelby Johnson had four kills and Josie DeGroot recorded three kills, one block and two digs for the Black Panthers. Jermaine Nelson and Kiera Hubers each added two kills in the loss. Payton Porter led defensively with five digs and Madi Whalen had three digs, 10 assists and one block.

For Wagner, Gina Soukup had six kills and five aces and Ali Kuca recorded four aces, two blocks and six kills. Krista Dvorak had two aces and 10 assists. Kim Koupal had seven kills. Brooklyn Tolliver had 15 digs for the Red Raiders, while Kayla Deurmier had 15 assists.

Platte-Geddes (0-1) plays Wessington Springs Thursday in Platte, while Wagner (3-2) plays Chamberlain Thursday.

Parkston 3, Avon 0

AVON — Whitney Weber recorded 39 assists to help the Parkston volleyball team defeat Avon 25-10, 25-17, 25-14 Tuesday.

Laura Weiss led the Trojans in kills with 13, while Halli Heisinger had six kills and four aces. Kenzie Lee had eight kills and five aces and Hanna Heisinger chipped in with six kills and three aces.

Avon was led by Mallory Cihak, who had nine kills, two blocks, six assists and five digs. Ariana Oorlog chipped in with three kills, six digs and one ace, while Sammy DeJong had one kill, one block and three digs.

Parkston won the B match 25-11, 22-25, 15-10, while Avon won the C match 24-26,25-22,15-9.

Parkston (3-2) plays Hanson Thursday in Parkston. Avon (0-2) hosts Andes Central Thursday.

Chester Area 3,

McCook Central/Montrose 0

MONTROSE — Brianna Painter had 27 digs in McCook Central/Montrose’s 3-0 loss to Chester Area.

Set scores were 25-23, 25-10, 25-19.

Rachel Reiff had 13 kills, one block and three digs to lead Chester Area. Sara Heyn chipped in with 33 assists and eight digs, while Jenna Reiff had nine kills and 12 digs.

McCook Central/Montrose was led by Nicole Roth and Taylor Miles. Miles had six kills and five digs, while Roth had six kills, one block, one assist and three digs. Laura Klaudt added two kills, one block, 10 assists and 11 digs.

The Fighting Cougars (0-5) play at Parker Thursday.

Hanson 3, Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 0

ALEXANDRIA — The Hanson Beavers volleyball team defeated Sanborn Central/Woonsocket in three sets Tuesday.

Set scores were 25-17, 25-15, 25-12.

Sydney Dodd had seven kills and six digs to lead the way for the Beavers. Kynedi Cheeseman added five kills, six digs and seven aces, while Emily Brown had 10 assists and Leah Marsh had 11 digs.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket was led by Rachel Selland, who had six kills. Myah Selland had four kills and four blocks, while Savannah Swenson had six assists and five digs for the Blackhawks.

The Hanson won the JV game 2-0.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (0-1) plays at Ethan Thursday, and Hanson (4-0) plays Parkston Thursday in Parkston.

Ethan 3, Kimball/White Lake 1

WHITE LAKE — The Ethan volleyball team defeated Kimball/White Lake 3-1 Tuesday.

Set scores were 15-25, 25-11, 28-26-25-23.

Ethan was led by Darbi Gustafson, who had nine kills. Holley Lindeman had 24 assists and two blocks, Kaycee McGuire had six digs and three aces, Rachel Hawkins had two aces and seven kills and Anna Mueller had eight kills and five digs.

Emily Sinclair led Kimball/White Lake with eight aces and 15 digs. Jazmyn Hinker added two aces and six kills, Hailey Pazour had two aces, five kills, two blocks and Paige Munsen had seven assists.

Kimball B-team beat Ethan 2-0.

KWL (0-1) hosts Sunshine Bible Academy 6:30 Thursday in Kimball. Ethan (2-2) plays Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Ethan.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton 3,

Bridgewater-Emery 1

EMERY — Mikayla Weiss recorded 11 assists and 15 digs to lead the Mount Vernon/Plankinton Titans over Bridgewater-Emery 24-26, 25-10, 25-19, 25-14 Tuesday.

Makaela Karst had seven kills and three aces for the Titans, while Megan Bultsma added six blocks.

The Huskies were led by Justin Dye, who had nine kills. Hannah Harberts had 10 assists and Chesney Arend added 13 digs. Kelsey Kotas tallied five kills, while Aly Hanssen had seven assists.

Bridgewater-Emery (0-1) hosts Tripp-Delmont/Armour Thursday in Emery, while Mount Vernon/Plankinton (1-0) hosts Corsica/Stickney Thursday in Plankinton.

Tripp-Delmont/Armour 3, Menno 0

MENNO — The Tripp-Delmont/Armour Nighthawks beat Menno in three sets in a high school volleyball game Tuesday.

Set scores were 25-20, 25-22, 25-19.

The Nighthawks were led by Jessica Sandau, who recorded eight kills, seven assists and 10 digs. Becca Brown had five kills, 10 digs and five aces for the Nighthawks. Hannah Just added five kills, 12 digs and five assists.

Madison Huber led Menno, recording three kills, eight assists, nine digs and one ace. Abby Herrboldt had four kills, three assists, four digs and two digs, while Christina Herrboldt had six kills, one block, nine digs and three aces.

Tripp-Delmont/Armour (1-1) plays Bridgewater-Emery Thursday in Emery. Menno (0-1) plays Freeman Academy Thursday in Menno.

Bon Homme 3, Andes Central 1

TYNDALL — The Bon Homme volleyball team defeated Andes Central in four sets Tuesday.

Set scores were 26-24, 18-25, 25-15, 25-11.

Caitlin McLouth led Bon Homme with 10 kills and Emily Pechous added seven kills for the Cavaliers. Allie Adams had 22 assists, Vanessa Navratil had 11 digs, Shawna Rezac had 10 and Kelsey Sutera and Pechous had 12.

Andes Central was led by Payton Johanneson. Johanneson had 10 kills and five digs, while DiMera Dvorak chipped in with 10 digs and Dennisha Johanneson had five kills and nine assists.

The Bon Homme won the JV game 2-1.

Bon Homme (2-0) plays Saturday at the Gregory tournament. Andes Central (0-1) travels to play Avon Thursday in Avon.

Chamberlain 3, Stanley County 0

FORT PIERRE — The Chamberlain Cubs volleyball team defeated Stanley County 3-0 in high school volleyball action Tuesday.

Set scores were 25-17, 25-9, 25-10.

The Cubs were led by Ilaria Giuli, Shelby Schindler, Abbey Handel and Brigitte Byrd. Giuli had six aces, Schindler had eight kills, Handel had nine assists and Byrd had 11 digs for the Cubs.

No stats were available for Stanley County.

Chamberlain (1-1) plays Wagner Thursday in Chamberlain.

Gayville-Volin 3, Marion 2

MARION — The Marion Bears volleyball team fell to Gayville-Volin in five sets at home Tuesday.

Set scores were 22-25, 25-12, 25-23, 21-25, 17-15.

Erica Schoenwald had 21 kills and 15 digs to lead the Bears. Kaitlyn Engbrecht added 16 assists and 17 digs, Devin Nelson had 11 kills and 15 digs and Renae Kayser had 18 assist and 14 digs.

Genevieve Clark had 10 kills and 20 digs to lead Gayville-Volin.

Gayville-Volin (1-0) plays Alcester Hudson Thursday in Alcester. Marion (2-2) hosts Irene-Wakonda Thursday.

Mitchell Christian 3,

Sunshine Bible Academy 1

MILLER — The Mitchell Christian volleyball team defeated Sunshine Bible Academy to record its first win of the season Tuesday.

Set scores were 21-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-12.

Emily Schrag had 28 assists, three aces and three blocks to lead the way for MCS. Abbie Reynen had nine kills and four digs, Emily Reynen had 12 kills, seven blocks and seven digs, while Ellie Bleeker had five aces and 21 digs.

Sunshine Bible Academy was led by Sarah Pedersen, who had six aces, four blocks and two digs. Tricia Wilken chipped in with six kills and four digs.

Mitchell Christian hosts Iroquois Thursday.
