Area high school volleyball 10/11/13: Hanson earns 12th straight win
Hanson continued its stellar play, topping Mitchell Christian in three sets in high school volleyball action Thursday in Mitchell.
The set scores were 25-15, 25-22, 25-21.
Hanson (17-1) was led by Kynedi Cheeseman with 11 kills, while Emily Brown racked up 12 assists.
The Beavers have won 12 consecutive matches.
Leading the Golden Eagles was Emily Schrag with 18 assists, four blocks and three aces. Emily Reynen added five kills, six blocks and 10 digs for Mitchell Christian.
Hanson plays Menno Tues-day in Alexandria, while Mitchell hosts Hendricks, Minn., Monday in Mitchell.
Platte-Geddes 3, Gregory 0
GREGORY — Platte-Geddes took a straight set victory over the Gorillas Thursday in Gregory.
The set scores were 25-18, 25-22, 25-15.
Platte-Geddes got 10 kills and 16 digs from Josie DeGroot. Brianna Erickson added 14 digs for the Black Panthers.
Courtney Opbroek led Gregory with 11 kills and 15 digs, while Brett Steffen added 18 assists and 11 digs.
Platte-Geddes won the JV match 2-0.
Gregory (8-10) plays Colome Tuesday in Colome, while Platte-Geddes (7-9) plays Corsica/Stickney Monday in Corsica.
Mount Vernon/Plankinton 3, Chamberlain 0
CHAMBERLAIN — Mount Vernon/Plankinton topped Chamberlain 25-14, 25-14, 25-10 Thursday in high school volleyball action in Chamberlain.
It was the 13th straight win for the Titans who got 30 as-sists from Mikayla Weiss and 12 kills from Makaela Karst.
Chamberlain was led by Brigitte Byrd with 24 digs and five assists.
The Titans won the JV match 2-0.
MVP (15-2) plays Wagner Monday in Wagner. The Cubs (4-13) play Winner Tuesday in Chamberlain.
Corsica/Stickney 3, Burke/South Central 0
CORSICA — The Jaguars continued their sudden winning ways with a fourth straight victory over Burke/South Central Thursday in Corsica.
The set scores were 25-17, 25-21, 25-18.
Corsica/Stickney had lost 12 straight before winning the last four.
Jackie Dethlefsen led the Jaguars with 11 kills, three blocks and four aces. Rachel Milligan added 23 assists and 10 digs.
The Cougars got a team-high eight kills from Grace Hazen.
The Jaguars (4-12) play Platte-Geddes Monday in Cor-sica. The Cougars (3-15) play Dakota Christian Monday in New Holland.
Winner 3, White River 0
WINNER — The Warriors took a straight set victory over White River in high school volleyball action Thursday night in Winner.
The set scores were 25-15, 25-3, 25-9.
Winner’s Cassidy Hanson recorded 13 kills and eight digs, while Kelsey Bertram contributed seven kills and 15 digs.
Winner won the JV match 2-0.
Winner (19-2) plays in a tournament Saturday in Chester.
Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 3, Tripp-Delmont/Armour 1
WOONSOCKET — The Sanborn Central/Woonsocket volleyball team defeated Tripp-Delmont/Armour 23-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-18 Thursday in high school volleyball action.
Marissa Weber led the Blackhawks with nine kills, 17 digs and six aces, while Rachel Selland recorded 13 assists and 11 digs. Morgan Selland added 11 digs in the win.
Hannah Just had a team-high six kills and 10 assists in the loss. Becca Brown added 16 digs and Allyson Ledeboer tallied 11 digs.
Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (13-6) play James Valley Christian Tuesday in Huron, while the Nighthawks (2-14) play Mount Vernon/Plankinton Tuesday in Plankinton.
Bon Homme 3, Freeman 0
TYNDALL —The Bon Homme Cavaliers defeated Freeman 3-0 Thursday for their third straight win.
Set scores were 25-22, 25-7, 25-15.
Kelsey Sutera led Bon Homme with 18 digs and Caitlin McLouth tallied 10 kills. Alie Adams chipped in with 15 assists, while Morgan Rothschadl and Vanessa Navratil each had 10 digs.
Freeman’s Nicole Hinckley had three kills and two blocks, Shelby Jensen recorded seven digs and Riley Mehlaf tallied four assists.
Bon Homme (14-5) won the JV and C matches and plays at Scotland Tuesday, while Freeman (2-11) plays at Canistota Tuesday.
Marion 3, Howard 0
MARION — Erica Schoenwald recorded a match-high 16 kills and added four blocks, three digs and one block in Marion’s three set victory over Howard Thursday.
Set scores were 25-17, 25-6, 26-24.
Devin Nelson tallied 11 kills, a team-best 12 digs and four aces in the win. Kaitlyn Engbrecht had 15 assists, nine digs and five aces Renae Kayser had 16 assists, four kills, nine digs and five aces for Marion.
For Howard, Jessica Caviegielli had eight kills and two blocks. Sam Hughes added nine digs in the loss.
Marion (13-6) hosts Canton Tuesday, while Howard (3-14) won the JV match and hosts Iroquois Tuesday.
Ethan 3, Canistota 0
CANISTOTA —Ethan earned its 17th victory of the season as it beat Canistota 25-21, 25-18, 25-17 in high school volleyball action Thursday.
Darbi Gustafson had a match-high 16 kills, 12 digs and three aces for the Rustlers. Holley Lindeman recorded 37 assists, six digs and three aces, while Kacey Bartscher tallied 10 kills, seven digs and two aces.
Canistota was led by Morgan Larson with 14 assists and three aces. Sydney Randall tallied 15 digs and Chloe Nielsen had five kills and nine digs.
Ethan (17-4) hosts Hanson Thursday, while the Hawks (5-12) host McCook Central Montrose Monday.
Highmore-Harrold 3, Wessington Springs 0
HIGHMORE — Sheyanne Brodkorb recorded a team-high 10 kills and 16 digs in Wessington Springs’ 3-0 loss to Highmore-Harrold Thursday.
Set scores were 25-17, 29-27, 25-22.
Morgan Tebay had 13 assists and Maddie Gran added three blocks in the loss.
McKenzee Zilverberg had 19 assists in the win, while Tierny Hamlin added 12 kills.
The Spartans (5-15) won the JV match and host Sunshine Bible Academy Tuesday in Wessington Springs.
Colome 3, Todd County 1
MISSION — The Colome Cowgirls beat Todd County in four sets Thursday during a high school volleyball match.
Set scores were 22-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-19.
Colome was led by Rebecca Moorhead, who finished with seven kills, 20 digs and five aces. Mariah Kinzer added seven kills. Taylor Hrabanek chipped in with four aces, seven assists and three blocks, while Rylee Jo Rutten had two aces and 22 digs.
Colome (2-12) plays Gregory Tuesday in Colome.
Kimball/White Lake 3, Parkston 0
PARKSTON — Jazmyn Hinker had 14 kills and 12 digs for a double-double to help Kimball/White Lake beat Parkston in three sets Thursday.
Set scores were 25-22, 26-24, 25-23.
Mary Kroupa added 34 assists and 10 digs for the WiLdKats. Anna Pazour had 15 digs, while Haley Pazour recorded 15 kills.
Laura Weiss had 11 kills to lead the way for Parkston. Abbie Mechtenberg chipped in with 13 digs, while Halli Heisinger had eight kills. Whitney Weber added two aces and 16 assists in the loss.
Parkston (13-6) plays Wagner Tuesday in Parkston. Kimball/White Lake (11-6) plays Lyman Saturday in Presho.

SCOTLAND — The Scotland volleyball team fell to Parker 25-18, 25-20, 25-11 Thursday in Scotland.
Carley Skorepa recorded 11 kills and five digs for the Highlanders and Amber Alvery had 17 assists and nine digs.
Parker was led by Allison Sanner with 12 kills and 12 digs for a double-double.
Scotland (5-9) plays Milbank in the Chester Classic Saturday.
Bridgewater-Emery 3, Avon 0
BRIDGEWATER — Justine Dye had 14 kills, 14 digs and two blocks to help the Bridgewater-Emery Huskies defeat Avon in three sets.
Set scores were 25-21, 27-25, 25-14.
Mallory Haiar added nine kills for the Huskies, while Aly Hanssen had 13 assists and 11 digs. Chesney Arend chipped in with 26 digs and two aces, while Tiana Kayser had seven kills and two blocks.
Avon was led by Ariana Oorlog. She recorded seven kills, three blocks, 20 digs and two assists. Chesney Nagel had five kills, 11 digs, two blocks and three assists for the Pirates. Amanda Reiff added four kills and eight digs, while Hanna Powers had 11 assists, three digs and two aces.
Bridgewater-Emery (12-8) won the JV match and hosts Colman-Egan Monday in Bridgewater, while Avon (9-10) hosts Freeman Thursday in Avon.
West Central 3, McCook Central/Montrose 1
HARTFORD — McCook Central/Montrose fell to West Central in four sets Thursday.
Set scores were 19-25, 27-25, 25-19, 25-16.
No stats were reported despite attempts to reach coaches.
MCM (8-11) plays Canistota Monday in Canistota.
