Area high school basketball roundup 1/4/13: Freeman tops Huskies 54-49
EMERY -- Dina Soulek scored 21 points for Freeman as the Flyers defeated Bridgewater-Emery 54-49 in a high school girls' basketball game Thursday.
Nicole Saarie scored 14 points for the Flyers, who shot 16 percent from the field and 72 percent from the free-throw line. Freeman made 11 of its 65 field goal attempts and 31 of its 43 free throws.
Soulek recorded six rebounds of the team's 34. Freeman recorded 10 turnovers to Bridgewater-Emery's 18.
Justine Dye scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Huskies. Tiana Kayser scored 13 points and Aly Hanssen had nine.
Bridgewater-Emery tallied 32 rebounds as a team. The Huskies shot 18-of-49 from the field for 36 percent and 12-of-18 from the free-throw line for 66 percent.
Freeman is 4-2 and hosts Bon Homme Monday, while B-E (4-4) hosts Colman-Egan Saturday in a double header.

O'Malley scored 26 points and recorded 10 rebounds. Carleigh Oster added 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Kylie Hughes led the Bears with 11 points. Katherine Luke and Brianna Davis each scored seven points. Cynda Miller led the team in rebounds with six. Luke recorded five steals and Davis had two assists.
Marion shot 12-of-59 from the field and 6-of-21 from the free-throw line. The team tallied 22 rebounds and nine turnovers.

SCOTLAND -- Scotland held Avon to just four points in the final quarter as the Highlanders defeated the Pirates 50-39 Thursday.
Aisha Abbink scored 16 points for Scotland and recorded four rebounds and five assists. Kennidy Asche scored 15 points and had three rebounds and two blocks.
The Highlanders shot 16-of-39 from the field. Scotland recorded 24 rebounds and eight turnovers.
Ariana Oorlog was the high scorer for Avon with 16 points. Chesney Nagel added 15 points and had three rebounds and three steals.
Avon shot 17-of-54 from the field. The Pirates recorded 22 team rebounds and eight turnovers.

Kennedy Wagner and Abbey Handel led the Cubs' offense with 18 points apiece. Jaymee Knippling added nine points. Chamberlain shot 17-of-48 from the field and 30-of-41 from the free-throw line.
Logan Pickner had 12 of Chamberlain's 34 rebounds. Knippling recorded 10 rebounds. Alex Pederson and Moriah Glaus had four steals each. The Cubs recorded 22 turnovers in the win.
Chamberlain hosts Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Monday, while Crow Creek (3-4) hosts McLaughlin today.

Kellie Winckler led the team in rebounds with eight, while Krista Winckler added seven and Jo Marie Garcia added five. Krista Winckler had three assists and Kellie Winckler recorded five steals.
