TYNDALL — Cole Paulson led all players with 43 points and helped the Freeman boys’ basketball team to an 86-63 overtime victory over Bon Homme Monday.

Freeman’s Brennan Schmidt had 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds for a double-double. The Flyers were 31-of-59 from the field, 8-of-19 from behind the arc and 16-of-22 from the line. Freeman had 32 rebounds, 14 steals and committed 18 turnovers.

Bon Homme was led by Jon Barrett with 23 points. Scott Van Winkle, Mike Mesman and Scott Wieseler each had 18 points in the loss. Van Winkle also had eight assists and seven rebounds. The Cavaliers were 22-of-63 from the field, 10-of-20 from the three-point range and 9-of-13 from the free-throw line. Bon Homme had 15 turnovers, 32 rebounds and 12 steals.

The Flyers (1-1) play at Canistota Thursday, while the Cavaliers (0-1) host Scotland Friday.

Winner 57, Kimball/White Lake 53

WINNER — The Winner boys’ basketball team had three players score in double figures as it beat Kimball/White Lake 57-53 Monday.

Dalton Leiferman had a team-high 18 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double in the win. Nathan Galbraith had 15 points and Sam Naasz scored 11. Winner outrebounded the WiLdKats 27-23.

Kimball/White Lake was led by Eathen Gaulke with a game-high 23 points. Noah Munsen recorded 12 points and brought down a team-high seven rebounds.

Winner (1-0) hosts Miller Friday, while Kimball/White Lake (0-2) hosts Mitchell Christian Thursday in Kimball.

Platte-Geddes 68, Andes Central 34

LAKE ANDES — Coby Johnson scored 21 points and brought down seven rebounds to help Platte-Geddes beat Andes Central 68-34 Monday in high school boys’ basketball action.

Carter Dykstra and Brady Peterson also scored in double figures for the Black Panthers with 11 and 12 points, respectively. Dykstra also had seven rebounds and Kole Heller recorded 10 steals. Platte-Geddes shot 40 percent from the field and recorded 26 rebounds, 14 steals and 12 turnovers.

Darrin Hopkins had a team-best nine points and eight rebounds in the loss. Andes Central shot 41 percent from the field and had 30 rebounds, 10 steals and 31 turnovers.

Platte-Geddes (2-0) host South Central Thursday, while Andes Central (0-1) plays at Mitchell Christian Dec. 30.

Viborg-Hurley 66, Scotland 52

SCOTLAND — Scotland had two players in double-digit scoring figures but fell to Viborg-Hurley 66-52 Monday in high school boys’ basketball action.

Shaye Bloch and Tanner Skorepa each had 14 points in the loss. Skorepa also brought down a team-high seven rebounds. Scotland shot 31 percent from the field and had 21 rebounds and 15 turnovers.

Jack Huether recorded a game-high 24 points in the win, while Rusten Anderson had 16 points.

Scotland (1-1) won the JV game 28-24 in overtime and plays Bon Homme Friday in Tyndall.

Chamberlain 80, Gregory 41

GREGORY — Chamberlain beat Gregory 80-41 in a boys’ high school basketball game on Monday night.

Chamberlain’s leaders on the night were Skyler Bertram with 19 points, Reuben Estes with 13 points and Davis Carson with 12. Chamberlain had 35 rebounds and shot 24-of-60 from the field and 27-of-30 from the free-throw line.

Gregory’s Gavin Thomas had a team-high 11 points and Robert Vomacka had 10 points. The Gorillas shot 16-of-48 from the field and 8-of-15 from the line and brought down 26 rebounds.

Chamberlain won the JV game 42-25.

Gregory (0-1) plays at Colome Thursday, while Chamberlain (1-0) hosts Parkston Friday.

Canistota 70, Irene-Wakonda 59

CANISTOTA — The Canistota boys’ basketball team earned its first win of the season after beating Irene-Wakonda 70-59 Monday.

Canistota was led by Shay Jolley with 27 points and four assists. Mason Decker had 13 points. Canistota, which had 27 rebounds, shot 22-of-46 from the field and went 19-of-35 from the free-throw line.

For Irene-Wakonda, Gabe King had 20 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Irene-Wakonda (0-1) won the JV game 36-23.

Canistota (1-1) plays Freeman in Canistota Thursday night.

Freeman Academy 52, Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 45

FREEMAN — Josh Stahl recorded 17 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Freeman Academy boys’ basketball team to a 52-45 win over Oldham-Ramona/Rutland Saturday.

Teagan Schroeder scored 15 points and brought down six rebounds, while Jeff Graber added 11 points in the win.

Josh Thurow led the Raiders with 12 points.

Freeman Academy (1-1) plays Walthill (Neb.) Saturday in Walthill.

Girls’ basketball

Hanson 54, Parkston 31

PARKSTON — Hanson beat Parkston 54-31 in a high school girls’ basketball game Monday night.

Parkston was lead in scoring by Sadie Schoenfelder with 12 points, while Justine Alley had 10 points and four rebounds. Parkston shot 26 percent from the field and 55 percent from the free-throw line. As a team, the Trojans recorded 21 rebounds and nine steals.

Hanson had help from all over the floor as Sydney Dodd scored 14 points, Kynedi Cheeseman had 12 points and five rebounds and Leah Marsh had 10 points and three rebounds. Hanson shot 40 percent from the field and 30 percent from the line.

Hanson (3-0) plays Menno Friday in Alexandria, while Parkston (0-3) plays at Chamberlain Friday.

Ethan 59, Mount Vernon/Plankinton 53 OT

ETHAN — Two Ethan girls’ basketball players scored 20 points as the Rustlers defeated Mount Vernon/Plankinton 59-53 in overtime Monday.

Ethan’s Darbi Gustafson had 20 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double and Kacey Bartscher had 20 points. Rachel Hawkins recorded six assists in the win. Ethan shot 19-of-40 from the field and 18-of-37 from the freethrow line and recorded 28 rebounds and 10 turnovers.

For Mount Vernon/Plankinton, Makaela Karst had 16 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Mount Vernon/Plankinton went 24-of-60 from the field and 11-of-22 from the line. The Titans had 29 rebounds and 19 turnovers.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton won the JV game 28-24.

Ethan (1-1) plays Dakota Christian Thursday in New Holland, while Mount Vernon/Plankinton (1-2) plays Corsica/Stickney Thursday in Plankinton.
