Area high school basketball roundup 12/12/12: Parkston beats TDA 54-34
ARMOUR -- Parkston started its season off with a 54-34 victory against Tripp-Delmont/Armour in a high school boys' basketball game Tuesday.
Tanner Weber scored 15 points for the Trojans. Jalen Hurley added 11 points. Parkston made 21 of its 52 field goal attempts for 40 percent and shot 5-of-13 from the free-throw line for 38 percent.
Spencer Lucas grabbed eight of the Trojans' 30 rebounds. Weber added six rebounds. Parkston totaled 18 turnovers. The 1-0 Trojans host Chamberlain Friday.
Trevor Payer finished the game with 10 points and eight rebounds for the Nighthawks. Austin Barlow scored eight points in the win.
TDA made 11 of its 41 field goal attempts for 27 percent and made 7 of 13 free throw attempts for 54 percent.
The Nighthawks totaled 19 team rebounds and 17 turnovers. TDA (1-1) hosts Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Thursday in Armour.
Parkston won the junior varsity game 44-13.

ETHAN -- Jared Long scored a game-high 40 points to lead Mount Vernon/Plankinton over Ethan 87-75 Tuesday.
Deric Denning scored 20 points for the Titans. Denning had four assists. Kellam Karst and Long each grabbed six rebounds.
Mount Vernon/Plankinton shot 28-of-48 from the field for 58 percent and 28-of-37 from the free-throw line for 76 percent. The Titans had 29 rebounds and eight turnovers.
Blake Bartscher scored a team-high 20 points for Ethan and finished the game with six assists. Colton Bierle added 14 points. Brandon Andersen and Jace Connor scored 11 points each. Anthony Huber and Andersen had seven rebounds apiece.
The Rustlers shot 30-of-61 from the field and 11-of-15 from the free-throw line. Ethan totaled 33 team rebounds and seven turnovers.
MVP (1-1) plays Bon Homme Thursday in Tyndall. Ethan (0-2) hosts Dakota Christian Thursday.

WINNER -- Ben Connot scored 16 points to lead the Winner Warriors over the Stanley County Buffaloes 63-29 Tuesday.
Zach Pederson scored nine points in the win. Sam Naasz led the team with seven rebounds.
Winner shot 29-of-55 for 53 percent from the field and 3-of-8 for 38 percent from free-throw line. The Warriors had 32 team rebounds and 18 turnovers.
Winner (1-1) hosts Chamberlain Tuesday, while Stanley County (0-2) plays at Philip Thursday.
Winner won the junior varsity game 39-15 and the "C" game 46-5.

HOWARD -- Three players scored in double digits to lead Howard over Chester Area 52-45 in a high school boys' basketball game Tuesday.
Howard's Steve Larsen had 11 points and 10 rebounds. Cal Wiese scored 10 points and six steals. Cole Potter had 10 points. Andrew Schwader had 10 rebounds.
Howard was 17-of-55 from the field and 15-of-31 from the free-throw line. The team had 39 rebounds and 10 turnovers.

BURKE -- South Central had three players score in double digits as the Cougars defeated North Central (Neb.) 52-48 Tuesday in overtime.
Dakota Votaw scored 18 points and had seven assists and five steals in the win. Tyler Frank scored 16 points and pulled down six rebounds. Josh Tuttle added 11 points.
The Cougars shot 19-of-50 from the field and 13-of-26 from the free-throw line. South Central ended the game with 21 team rebounds and six turnovers.
South Central is 2-0 and plays at Stewart, Neb., Saturday.

Xiomar Zephier finished the game with 15 points for Marty Indian. Chris Bad Hand and Clinton Neiss Jr. scored 13 points apiece. Marty shot 34 percent from the field and 13 percent from the free-throw line.
Cohl Ratermann led Lyman with 15 points and 17 rebounds. Terrance Kinzer had four assists for the Cowboys and Brady London had four steals. Colome shot 33 percent from the field and 42 percent from the free-throw line.

AVON -- The Corsica/Stickney boys' basketball team shot 50 percent from the field and defeated Avon 55-37 Tuesday.
Lane Thomas led the all scorers with 18 points in the win. Thomas also recorded four assists. Austin Tilton finished with 15 points and five rebounds.
Avon was led by Logan Mudder, who recorded a double-double. Mudder tallied 15 points and 10 rebounds, which were both team highs. Brandon Kocmich scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds for the Pirates.
Avon (0-2) hosts Hanson Saturday. Corsica/Stickney (1-1) takes on Wessington Springs Dec 20. in Wessington Springs.

Nightingale scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the WiLdKats. Jazmyn Hinker scored 18 points and had four assists in the win. Ivy Haines added eight rebounds. Hailey Mohnen had four assists. KWL shot 13-of-20 from the free-thorw line.
Kelly Knudson led Platte-Geddes's scoring with 13 points. Shelby Rabenberg added 14 points. The Black Panthers shot 4-of-10 from the free-throw line.

NEW HOLLAND -- Dakota Christian improved to 3-1 with a 49-33 win over Gregory Tuesday.
Sammie DeLange and Brooklyn Vander Pol scored 12 points apiece to lead the Cadets. Vander Pol also led the team with five steals. Amber Baan Hofman pulled down eight rebounds for Dakota Christian, while Abbi Baan Hofman grabbed seven.
Dakota Christian made 19 of 50 field goal attempts and went 10-of-14 from the free-throw line for 71 percent. The team had 32 total rebounds and 17 turnovers.
Sierra Thomas was the leading scorer for Gregory with 11 points. Briana Leber led the Gorillas with seven rebounds.
Gregory shot 7-of-35 from the field and 7-of-16 from the free-throw line. The Gorillas totaled 20 team rebounds, but turned the ball over 23 times.

SCOTLAND -- Aisha Abbink scored a game-high 31 points to help Scotland defeat Menno 74-46.
The senior guard also had five rebounds, two steals and one assist.
The Highlanders recorded 31 rebounds. Kennidy Asche grabbed seven and added 18 points. Amber Alvey finished with nine points, three steals and two rebounds.
Menno was led by Kylee Kessler, who finished with a team-high 17 points. Kessler added five rebounds and two assists. Christina Herrboldt scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds. Abby Herrboldt added six points.

Cassidy Musick had 20 points and Devon Tebay recorded 13 in the game.
