Area high school basketball roundup 01/11/13: Kocmich leads Avon boys past Scotland
AVON -- Brandon Kocmich recorded a double-double in Avon's 53-16 win over Scotland in a high school boys' basketball game Thursday.
Kocmich scored 26 points for the Pirates and grabbed 10 rebounds. Logan Mudder scored 18 points and pulled down six rebounds. Devin Tolsma recorded six assists in the win.
Avon went 20-of-44 from the field for 45 percent, while Scotland shot 6-of-34 for 18 percent. Avon went 6-of-14 from the free-throw line and Scotland went 3-of-4. The Pirates had 33 team rebounds to Scotland's 14. Both teams tallied 11 turnovers.
Avon is 2-6 this season and plays at Mitchell Christian Monday. Scotland is 1-6 and plays Andes Central today in Lake Andes.

FORESTBURG -- James Valley Christian came out on top in a game between two undefeated teams Thursday. The Vikings bested Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 73-55.
Adam Hofer scored a game-high 29 points for James Valley Christian. The Vikings are 6-0 with the win and play in the 281 Conference Tournament Saturday in Wolsey.
Nick Miller scored 21 points to lead Sanborn Central/Woonsocket. Tyler Krueger added nine points. The Blackhawks shot 20-of-48 from the field and 12-of-18 from the free-throw line.
Davion Brooks pulled down eight of SCW's 36 team rebounds and Miller added seven. Krueger had six assists in the loss. The Blackhawks turned the ball over 20 times.
SCW is 7-1 and plays in the 281 Conference Tournament Saturday in Huron.

Kodi Larson and Scott Wieseler each scored 12 points to lead the Cavaliers. Scott Van Winkle led the team with five rebounds and five assists.
Bon Homme shot 17-of-53 from the field and 9-of-15 from the free-throw line. The Cavaliers recorded 22 team rebounds and 16 turnovers.
Bon Homme is 2-7 this season and hosts Winner Monday in Tyndall.

PARKSTON -- Parkston picked up a win with a 51-32 victory over Wagner in a high school boys' basketball game Thursday.
Jalen Hurley scored 13 points for the Trojans. Spencer Lucas had eight rebounds and Parker Van Zee had six. Kyle Hohn tallied six assists.
Parkston shot 6-of-8 from the free-throw line and 20-of-52 from the field. The Trojans had 29 team rebounds and committed 11 turnovers.
Noah St. Pierre scored 14 points for the Red Raiders. Wagner shot 10-of-54 from the field and 8-of-14 from the free-throw line. The team had 23 rebounds and 11 turnovers

MISSION -- Gage Basting recorded a double-double in Chamberlain's 55-49 win over Todd County Thursday in a high school boys' basketball game.
Gage Basting recorded 12 points and 11 rebounds in the win. Reuben Estes had a team-high 24 points.
Chamberlain is 7-1 this season and plays Lennox at the Schoolers Classic in Sioux Falls Saturday. Chamberlain won the junior varsity game 52-40.

MURDO -- White River had four players score in double digits as the Tigers defeated Kadoka Area 90-32 in the first round of the Jones County Invitational Thursday.
Wyatt Krogman and Tavis Burbank led White River's scoring with 16 points apiece. Joe Cameron added 15 points. Matt Gillen scored 10 points and had eight rebounds.
The Tigers went 35-of-75 from the field and 8-of-15 from the free-throw line. White River totaled 41 rebounds and had 12 turnovers.
The Tigers are 6-1 and take on Colome at 6:30 p.m. today in Murdo.
Kenar VanderMay scored 16 points to lead Kadoka Area. The Kougars shot 14-of-46 from the field and 2-of-6 from the free-throw line. The team totaled 19 rebounds and 36 turnovers.
Kadoka Area is 1-7 and plays Bennett County in the second round of the tournament at 1 p.m. today in Murdo.

MURDO -- Cole Ratermann recorded a double-double in Colome's 46-42 win over Bennett County in the first round of the Jones County Invitational Thursday.
Ratermann finished the game with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Terrance Kinzer scored nine points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Cowboys, who will play White River at 6:30 p.m. today in the second round of the tournament.
Colome, which is 5-4 with the win, went 15-of-57 from the field and made 15 free throws on 20 times at the line. The team recorded 44 total rebounds and committed 17 turnovers.
Gassem Shangreaux scored 20 points to lead Bennett County and Wade Porch added 13 points. Bennett County, which is 2-5, shot 17-of-60 from the field and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. The Warriors recorded 25 team rebounds and 15 turnovers.
Bennett County will play Kadoka at 1 p.m. today in the consolation championship round of the tournament.

MURDO -- Lyman fell to Philip 53-50 in the first round of the Jones County Invitiational Tournament Thursday.
Thomas Doolittle and Gunnar Hook scored 16 points apiece for Philip. Hook led the team with 11 rebounds.
Philip shot 20-of-36 from the field and 9-of-22 from the free-throw line. The team totaled 29 rebounds and 15 turnovers.
Jaylen Uthe was Lyman's leading scorer with 16 points. Emmett Houchin added 14 points. Ryder Schweitzer led the defensive effort with nine rebounds.
Lyman shot 16-of-45 from the field and made 11 free throws on 18 attempts. The Raiders tallied 32 rebounds and 17 turnovers.

Philip Mathews had 20 points to lead the Coyotes. Wyatt Hespe added 12 points and Gus Volmer had 11. Mathews had five rebounds to lead the team.
Jones County shot 27-of-49 from the field and 9-of-12 from the free-throw line. The Coyotes tallied 24 rebounds and committed 10 turnovers.

Kelly Knudson scored 14 points and had six assists and six steals to lead Platte-Geddes. Shelby Rabenberg and Josie DeGroot each scored 13 points in the win. The Black Panthers shot 21-of-58 from the field and 4-of-7 from the free-throw line.
Rabenberg led the team's rebounding with seven. DeGroot had six rebounds of the team's 27. Platte-Geddes turned the ball over 10 times. The Black Panthers host Tripp-Delmont/Armour today in Platte.
Krista Winckler was the leading scorer for Andes Central with seven points. Kellie Winckler added six points and had eight rebounds, five blocks, three assists and four steals. Jo Marie Garcia pulled down six rebounds for the Eagles.

Cassidy Graham scored 18 points for the Beavers. Hailey Doyle scored 14 points and Kendra Cheeseman added 10 points. Hanson shot 25-of-54 from the field and 8-of-16 from the free-throw line. Graham recorded four assists and three steals and Kendra Cheeseman tallied four assists in the win.
Sarah Kayser recorded five rebounds for Hanson and Kynedi Cheeseman added four. The team totaled 27 rebounds. The Beavers turned the ball over 25 times.
The Beavers remain undefeated this season at 10-0 and play St. Thomas More Saturday in the Hanson Classic at the Corn Palace.

Maria Nightingale scored 14 points and had five rebounds to lead the WiLdKats. Jasmyn Hinker scored eight points, and Hailey Mohnen added six points.
Kimball/White Lake shot 12-of-27 from the field and totaled 18 rebounds and 17 turnovers. KWL will see its next action at the Tri-Valley Conference Classic Saturday in Alcester.
Hope Menning scored 11 points for Corsica/Stickney. Missy Johnson added six points. Jessica Hoogers had six points and seven rebounds.

Bon Homme's Karlee Kozak had 17 points, eight rebounds and five steals for the team's lone player in double-scoring figures.
