Area golfers place in junior tour events
HURON -- Several area youth golfers placed at the First Dakota National Bank Junior Tour event Wednesday at Broadland Creek Golf Course in Huron.
J.J. Cooney, of Lake Andes, finished in fifth place in the boys 16-18 division with a score of 80, while Payton Koehn and Jacob Lee, both of Parkston, finished in sixth place in boys 11-under and 14-15 divisions, respectively.
Other area golfers competing in the event were Collin Schmiedt, of Woonsocket, who shot a 68 in the boys 11-under division, Cade Carpenter, of Mitchell, who had an 88 in the boys 14-15 division and Landon Pooley, of Mitchell, who carded a 91 in the boys 16-18 division.
On Tuesday at Madison Country Club in Madison, Taylee Indahl, of Burke, won the girls 12-13 division with a 95, beating the field by nine strokes.
Jayden Bormann, of Parkston, took fourth place in the girls 14-15 division after shooting a 98, and Carpenter also finished in fourth place on the boys side with a score of 94.
Ethan Huber, of Mitchell, finished in fifth in the boys 12-13 division with a 91, while Niki Nelson, of Geddes, shot a 92 in the girls 16-18 girls division to finish in sixth place. Pooley finished in seventh place with a score of 92.
Other area golfers who competed in Madison were Caleb Kinzley, of Salem, who shot a 60 in the 11-under boys; Tate Krcil, of Mitchell, shot a 113 in the 14-15 boys; Jadee Mattheis, of Parkston, shot a 116 in the 14-15 girls; and Tyler Kaul, of Springfield, shot a 103 in the 16-18 boys.
