FREEMAN — Jordan Marquardt recorded 19 points and seven assists as the Hanson boys’ basketball team beat Freeman 58-48 Saturday at the Cornbelt Classic.

Sam Vander Stouwe and Taylor Nichols each added 14 points for the Beavers, who were 24-of-42 from the field, 3-of-6 from the line, had 14 rebounds and eight turnovers.

Freeman’s Brennan Schmidt led all players with 30 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Nick Helderbrand added 10 points for the Flyers, who were 18-of-33 from the field, 8-of-14 from the line and had 23 rebounds and 13 turnovers.

Hanson (12-3) and Freeman (8-6) face off again today in Freeman.

Canistota 60, Bridgewater-Emery 44 FREEMAN — Shay Jolley scored a game-high 23 points as Canistota topped Bridgewater-Emery 60-44 Saturday at the Cornbelt Classic.

Nick Hofer recorded 12 points for the Hawks, who were 21-of-52 from the field, 15-of-23 from the line and had 39 rebounds and 11 turnovers.

Jerret Weber had 13 points and six steals, Sam Arend added 11 points and Wade Miller scored 10 in the loss. The Huskies were 18-of-51 from the field, 8-of-15 from the line and had 27 rebounds and 17 turnovers.

Canistota (9-7) plays at Menno Thursday, while the Huskies (6-7) play at Parker Tuesday.

Menno 53, Marion 49 FREEMAN — The Menno boys’ basketball team had three players score in double figures in a 53-49 victory over Marion Saturday at the Cornbelt Classic.

Chet Peterson scored 20 points and had four steals, Derrick Lehr had 10 points and five assists and Caleb Preszler added 10 points in the win. The Wolves were 22-of-49 from the line, 5-of-11 from the line and had 21 rebounds and seven turnovers.

Marion’s Nick Gortmaker scored a game-high 21 points and Jacob Wuertz added 12 points.

Menno (6-10) and Marion (2-11) face off again today in Menno.

FREEMAN — The Howard boys’ basketball team fell to Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 68-46 Saturday at the Cornbelt Classic.

Howard’s David Noid scored a team-best 19 points, while David Weidler added 16 points in the win.

ORR was led by Nick Skyberg with 19 points, Jeridan Jordahl with 13 points and Justin Tolley with 10.

Howard (0-16) plays at Baltic Tuesday.

WINNER — The Winner boys’ basketball team fell to Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Saturday.

Xaver Norris had 29 points to lead the way for Cheyenne-Eagle Butte. Creighton LeBeau added 17 points, while Geoffrey Shaving had 13 points. Cheyenne-Eagle Butte was 25-of-58 from the field and 10-of-14 from the free-throw line.

Winner was led by Nathan Galbraith, who had 25 points and 11 rebounds. Dalton Leiferman chipped in with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Brendan Harter added 12 points.The Warriors were 21-of-49 from the field, 16-of-20 from the free-throw line and also won the JV game.

Winner (5-10) plays St. Francis Tuesday in St. Francis Indian in St. Francis, while CEB (14-2) plays McLaughlin Thursday in McLaughlin.

Anthony Tuschen added 11 rebounds for the Fighting Cougars, who were 20-of-41 from the field, 7-of-12 from the line and had 16 turnovers.

Wagner’s Noah St. Pierre scored a team-high 17 points, while Derek Soukup recorded 10 points and eight rebounds. Wagner was 17-of-45 from the field, 6-of-18 from the line and had seven turnovers.

Zac Paulson added 10 points and Braden Jones brought down seven rebounds for the Spartans, who were 17-of-45 from the field and had 26 rebounds.

Jones County’s Jackson Volmer scored 17 points and had 12 rebounds for a double-double.

Chloe Nielsen scored a team-best 16 points, Jenny Hofer had 11 and Kalli Ortman added 10 for the Hawks, who were 16-of-32 from the field, 11-of-20 from the line and had 24 team rebounds.

Justine Dye scored 16 points, Kadra Kayser recorded 12 points and Tiana Kayser added 11 points in the loss. The Huskies were 16-of-53 from the line, 12-of-16 from the field and had 19 rebounds.

FREEMAN — The Hanson Beavers picked up their 15th victory of the season after beating Freeman 75-53 Saturday in the Cornbelt Classic.

Kynedi Cheeseman recorded 23 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double, while Sydney Dodd and Leah Marsh added 16 points and 11 assists, respectively.

Hanson was 29-of-58 from the line, 9-of-12 from the line and had 28 rebounds and 16 turnovers.

Freeman’s Nicole Saarie scored 16 points, Taylor Hermsen added 12 and Cailey Roth had 11. The Flyers were 21-of-52 from the field and 5-of-7 from the line.

Hanson (15-2) and Freeman (13-4) face off again Tuesday in Freeman, but Freeman plays at Avon today before the rematch.

Shelby Selland scored a game-high 20 points, Myah Selland had 15 points and Rachel Selland added 10 in the win. Myah and Rachel each brought down 10 rebounds for double-doubles. The Blackhawks were 28-of-63 from the field, 14-of-23 from the line and had 49 rebounds and 14 turnovers.

SCW (14-1) won the JV game 30-23 and plays Bridgewater-Emery today, while Wolsey-Wessington (2-14) play Lake Preston next.
