Area basketball roundup: Gregory boys improve to 15-3 with win

MURDO — The Gregory boys’ basketball team topped Jones County 54-38 Saturday in Murdo.

The Gorillas were led by Mitchel Klundt with a team-high 13 points. Gregory shot 18-of-43 from the field and 15-of-31 from the free-throw line.

JC was led by Jackson Volmer with 15 points and 17 rebounds for the double-double, while Skyler Miller added 12 points. The Coyotes were 12-of-39 from the field and 13-of-21 from the free-throw line.

Gregory (15-3) plays Bon Homme Friday in Gregory, while Jones County (11-7) plays Bennett County Friday in Murdo.

Ethan 73, Freeman 52

FREEMAN — The No. 5 Ethan boys basketball team topped Freeman 73-52 Saturday in Freeman.

The Rustlers (16-3) were led by a trio of double-digit scorers. Senior Jace Connor scored a team-high 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Ethan, while senior Balke Bartscher added 16 points and five assists.Sophomore Camden Myers chipped in with 18 points in the win for Ethan, which shot 33-of-49 from the field and 4-of-9 from the free-throw line.

Cole Paulson scored a game-high 27 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Freeman (8-9) in the loss, while Brennan Schmidt added 13 points and four rebounds. The Flyers shot 18-of-43 from the field and 9-of-17 from the free-throw line, while outrebounding the Rustlers 28-19. Freeman committed 20 turnovers, while Ethan had 15.

Ethan plays its final regular season game against Tripp-Delmont/Armour Friday in Ethan, while Freeman plays Irene-Wakonda today in Irene.

Freeman Academy 63, Sante (Neb.) 48

MARTY — The Freeman Academy boys’ basketball team topped Santee, Neb. 63-46 at the Dakota Plains Tournament Saturday in Marty.

The Bobcats (6-12) were led by Teagan Schroeder with 18 points and 19 rebounds for the double-double, while Josh Stahl added a team-high 20 points. PaSait Mboob chipped in with 10 point, while Ryan Haggerty pulled down 10 rebounds.

FA shot 17-of-41 from the field and 25-of-43 from the free-throw line, while grabbing 46 total rebounds.

The Bobcats play Marion today in Marion.
