Area basketball roundup: Cougar boys win Holiday Classic
KIMBALL — The Burke/South Central boys’ basketball team won the Holiday Classic Tuesday.
In Monday’s game, Zach Sebern had 17 points and Sam Hazen scored 15 in the win.
Hazen led the Cougars in rebounding with eight. Burke/South Central shot 40 percent from the field and 50 percent from the line.
Colome was led by Terrance Kinzer with 15 points. Reed Harter had 10 points and Lane Fawcett brought down a game-high 14 rebounds. The Cowboys shot 29 percent from the field and 75 percent from the line.
Burke/South Central (4-3) plays at Wagner Tuesday, while Colome (2-3) hosts Jones County today.
Colome 64, Kimball/White Lake 41
KIMBALL —Reed Harter led the Colome boys’ basketball team over Kimball/White Lake 64-41 Tuesday in the Holiday Classic.
Harter had 28 points and Terrance Kinzer added 16 points and nine rebounds in the win. Holden Thieman recorded 14 points and six rebounds, while Lane Fawcett had nine rebounds.
Eathen Gaulke recorded 16 points and Noah Munsen added 11 points in the loss. Munsen also had seven rebounds for the WiLdKats, who finished fourth in the Holiday Classic.
Kimball/White Lake (0-5) plays Highmore-Harrold today in Highmore.
Jones County 60, Kimball/White Lake 53
KIMBALL —Jackson Volmer scored 25 points in Jones County’s 60-53 over Kimball/White Lake Monday at the Holiday Classic in Kimball.
Wyatt Weber scored 10 points for Jones County, which shot 62 percent from the field and 66 percent from the line.
Eathen Gaulke had 25 points and Noah Munsen added 14 for the WiLdKats.
Burke/South Central 41, Colome 32
KIMBALL — Allison Sebern scored a game-high 19 points to lift the Burke/South Central girls’ basketball team over Colome 41-32 Tuesday at the Holiday Classic in Kimball.
Grace Hazen scored eight points and five rebounds, while Sebern also brought down five rebounds. The Cougars shot 71 percent from the line and had 19 rebounds and 22 turnovers.
Colome’s Taylor Hrabanek had eight points and seven rebounds. Mariah Kinzer added seven points and Callie Heath and Rebecca Moorhead recorded six rebounds apiece. The Cowgirls shot 64 percent from the line and had 27 rebounds and 25 turnovers.
Burke/South Central (3-3) plays Andes Central Jan. 9, while Colome (2-4) hosts Kimball/White Lake Jan. 9.

Kimball/White Lake 35, Jones County 34
KIMBALL —The Kimball/White Lake girls’ basketball team edged Jones County 35-34 Tuesday in the Holiday Classic.
Mary Kroupa scored a team-best 14 points, while Jazmyn Hinker had 11 points and Ivy Haines added seven rebounds.
Jones County’s Madison Mathews had 17 points and Garline Boni tallied eight points.
The WiLdKats (5-1) play at Miller today, while Jones County (4-2) plays at Rapid City Christian Jan. 11.

Kimball/White Lake 55, Burke/South Central 50
KIMBALL — Kellie Steffen scored 16 points to help the Kimball/White Lake girls’ basketball defeat Burke/South Central 55-50 Monday at the Holiday Classic.
Paige Munsen added 11 points in the win.
Allison Sebern scored 16 points, Grace Hazen had 12 and Jenny Higgins added 11. Macaela Frank led in rebounds with nine.
Jones County 65, Colome 43
KIMBALL — Jones County topped Colome 65-43 in high school girls’ basketball action at Monday’s Holiday Classic in Kimball.
Rebecca Moorhead had 10 points and six rebounds in the loss. Colome shot 43 percent from the field and 61 percent from the line.
Madison Matthews had 17 points and five assists in the win.
