Area authors to sign books at Old West Flea Market and Scavengers' Journey
OACOMA -- Old West Trading Post, located at Interstate 90 Exit 260 at Oacoma, will be hosting several area authors for a book signing the weekend of June 22-23, as part of Old West's 14th Annual Flea Market and the Second Annual Scavengers' Journey.
Amanda Radke, of Mitchell, will sign her book, "Levi's Lost Calf," from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 22. She is a freelance writer, blogger, journalist and motivational speaker focused on agricultural issues.
The book is intended to inform and entertain young readers while helping them to understand what life is like on a cattle ranch.
Karen Holzer of Salem will sign her book, "A Birthday Gift for Great-Grandma," from 1 to 3 p.m. on June 22. Dishes out of an oatmeal box, immigrating from Sweden, a stove using corn cobs or wood to heat are a few of the things a little girl finds out her great-grandma has experienced while on a search for the perfect 100th birthday gift.
Originally from Timber Lake, Holzer built the story on bits of her grandmother's life in Dewey County.
James McLaird of Mitchell will sign his books, "Calamity Jane: The Woman and the Legend" and "Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane: Deadwood Legends." from 1 to 3 p.m. on June 22. McLaird is professor emeritus at Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell. He has written many articles pertaining to the history of the Old West.
Gene and Alice Olson of Oacoma will sign their book, "Around Chamberlain," from 1 to 3 p.m. on June 23. Part of the Postcard History Series from Arcadia books, the book is filled with vintage postcard photos of Chamberlain and the surrounding area.
A little background history is given with each photo.
Books may be purchased at the events for signing, or those attending may bring previously purchased books.
