Andes Central falls in final of Eagle Showdown

LAKE ANDES — Gayville-Volin did not lose a set in three matches and topped host Andes Central in 25-20, 25-18 in the final of the Eagle Showdown Saturday in Lake Andes.

Vanessa Ryken led G-V with 24 assists and six digs, while Kelia Barta added 10 kills and eight digs in the win.

G-V got to the final after two-set wins over Freeman Academy and Tripp-Delmont/Armour earlier in the tourney.

Dennisha Johanneson led Andes Central in the final with eight kills and five aces, while Payton Johanneson added five kills for the Eagles. EmilyHouseman had 10 assists and six digs in the loss.

Andes Central picked up a two-set victory over Colome to start the day, before being pushed to three sets in a win over Corsica/Stickney.

Andes Central (12-10) plays Bridgewater-Emery Tuesday in Emery.

Corsica/Stickney 2, Tripp-Delmont/Armour 0

LAKE ANDES — Corsica/Stickney topped Tripp-Delmont/Armour in two sets to take third place in high school volleyball action Saturday at the Eagle Showdown in Lake Andes.

The set scores were 25-14, 25-18.

The Jaguars were led by Hope Menning with five kills, three aces, nine digs and one block. Micayla Bamberg added five kills, and Rachel Milligan had 14 assists and five digs in the win.

Corsica/Stickney started with a three-set win over Freeman Academy before losing to host Andes Central in earlier round action at the tournament.

The Nighthawks’s Jessica Sandau had five kills and two blocks, while Hannah Just contributed five kills in the loss.

Tripp-Delmont/Armour picked up its third win of the season in early tournament action over Crow Creek before falling to Gayville-Volin.

The Nighthawks (3-16) play Platte-Geddes today in Platte, while the Jaguars (5-17) play Sanborn Central/Woonsocket today in Forestburg.

Freeman Academy 2, Dakota Christian 0

LAKE ANDES — Freeman Academy topped Dakota Christian 25-12, 25-21 in the fifth-place match of the Eagle Showdown Saturday in Lake Andes.

Hannah Yoder had a team-high six kills for the Bobcats, while Bethany Wollman added seven digs in the win.

Dakota Christian was led by Brooke Vander Pol and Abbi BaanHofman, each with four kills in the loss.

Freeman Academy (7-11) plays Mitchell Christian on Oct. 29 in Freeman, while Dakota Christian (4-19) plays Wolsey-Wessington today in Wolsey.

Colome 2, Crow Creek 0

LAKE ANDES — The Colome Cowgirls finished their day off with a win over Crow Creek in two set at the Eagle Showdown Saturday in Lake Andes.

The set scores were 25-11, 25-18.

Colome was led by Taylor Hrabanek with 10 digs, seven aces, two kills and two assists. Shayna Gustafson added 10 digs for the Cowgirls.

Colome started its day with losses to Andes Central and Freeman Academy.

Colome (4-17) plays St. Francis Indian today in St. Francis.
