Amateur baseball roundup: Walk-off lifts Mudcats over top-ranked Angels

PARKSTON -- Jeff Harris hit a walk-off single with bases loaded to lift the No. 2 Parkston Mudcats over No. 1 Alexandria 5-4 in the 10th inning of a Sunshine League amateur baseball game Thursday.

Alexandria tied the game in the bottom of the ninth after scoring three runs, forcing extra innings.

Spencer Freudenthal led the Mudcats going 2-for-3 with an RBI, two doubles and two walks, while Jeff Fish went 1-for-4 with two runs scored.

Alexandria's Chris Marek went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, an RBI and two runs scored. John Greicar went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored and Pierce Smith went 1-for-1 with two RBIs in the loss.

Tom Murtha was the winning pitcher, striking out three in 1.2 innings. Brady Nolz started for Parkston, giving up four runs, three earned, on six hits while striking out 10 in 8.1 innings.

Trever Vermeulen suffered the loss for the Angels, giving up three runs, two earned, on four hits in 2.2 innings. Tyson Gau started the game, giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits while striking out four in seven innings.

Alexandria plays Corsica/Stickney at 7 p.m. Sunday in Corsica, while the Mudcats play Mitchell at 5 p.m. June 29 at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.

Mount Vernon 6, Tripp-Delmont 1

TRIPP -- The Mount Vernon Cardinals topped Tripp-Delmont 6-1 Thursday in a Sunshine League amateur baseball game.

Kirby Fuerst got the win, giving up one run on five hits while striking out seven in seven innings. Evan Mastel threw two scoreless innings in relief.

Tyler Payer suffered the loss, giving up six runs on 10 hits in nine innings. He struck out nine.

Deric Denning went 3-for-5 with an RBI, Eric Giblin went 3-for-5 with three RBis and Cameron Deinert went 2-for-6 with a run scored in the win.

Tripp-Delmont's Bryce Roth went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Mount Vernon plays at Mitchell at 5 p.m. Sunday, while Tripp-Delmont hosts Platte at 5 p.m. Sunday in Delmont.

Corsica/Stickney 14, Mitchell Mad Dogs 7

CORSICA -- Corsica/Stickney defeated the Mitchell Mad Dogs 14-7 Sunday behind the arm and hitting of Derek Bultjie in a Sunshine League amateur baseball game.

Bultjie was the winning pitcher, giving up five runs, four earned, on 10 hits while striking out four. The losing pitcher was Cody Palmer, giving up 12 runs on 13 hits. He had three strikeouts in the loss.

Bultjie had a double and three singles, Luke Bamberg recorded four RBIs on a two-run homer and a single and Aaron Groeneweg three RBIs on a three-run home run and a single in the win.

Mitchell's Tyler Earls added three singles and Logan Risse had a triple and a single.

Corsica/Stickney plays a doubleheader against the Parkston Bullheads and Alexandria beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday in Corsica. The contest against the Angels is at 7 p.m.

Mitchell hosts Mount Vernon at 5 p.m. Sunday at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.
