Amateur baseball roundup: Platte holds off Corsica/Stickney; Raptors win

PARKSTON -- Platte was able to hold off Corsica/Stickney 9-6 in 11 innings in a first-round game of the District 5 amateur baseball tournament Friday at The Pond in Parkston.

Richard Sternberg had a double and two hits and Hayden Kupier added a double and a hit for the Killer Tomatoes. Jordan Johnson also had two hits to help lead Platte.

Michael Buitenbos earned the win for Platte after coming in for relief for Audie Kuipers who went eight innings and struck out three.

Luke Bamberg took the loss for Corsica/Stickney. Kris Menning had a double and Bamberg added a home run to lead the team offensively.

Platte plays Alexandria at 5 p.m. Sunday at The Pond in Parkston and Corsica/Stickney plays the Parkston Bullheads at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Dimock/Emery 17, Mount Vernon 0

PARKSTON -- Dimock Emery held Mount Vernon to one hit en route to a 17-0 victory in the final first-round game of the District 5 amateur baseball tournament in Parkston.

Phil Johnson earned the win for Dimock/Emery pitching four innings and striking out three. He was relieved by Kyle Larson in the fifth.

Jared Schmidt had a home run and two hits while Josh Schmidt added a double and another hit for the Raptors. Johnson added a two-run home run.

Kirby Fuerst took the loss for Mount Vernon. Brian Vermeulen had the lone hit with a double.

Dimock/Emery plays the Parkston Mudcats at 7 p.m. Sunday in Parkston, while Mount Vernon plays Tripp/Delmont at 8 p.m Tuesday.
