Amateur baseball roundup: Owls top Bankers
WESSINGTON SPRINGS — The Wessington Springs Owls defeated Plankinton 8-1 Thursday in a Pony Hills League amateur baseball game.
The winning pitcher was Adam Kaus, recording six strikeouts in nine innings.
Kaus, Anthony Wahl, Kody Kopfmann, Josh Hoffman and Zac Cranston each had two hits for the Owls.
The losing pitcher was Travis Gant for the Bankers. Billy Hamilton had two hits including a double, while Chris Hill added two singles.
Wessington Springs (2-3) hosts Chamberlain at 8 p.m. Thursday.
Alexandria 11, Platte 1
PLATTE — Trever Vermeulen recorded 11 strikeouts in Alexandria’s 11-1 seven-inning victory over Platte Thursday in a Sunshine League amateur baseball game.
Vermeulen walked one in seven innings.
The losing pitcher was Audie Kuipers, giving up seven runs, striking out one and walking three in five innings. He was 2-for-3 offensively for the Killer Tomatoes.
The Angels (7-1) plays Mitchell Mad Dogs at 5 p.m. Sunday at Cadwell Park in Mitchell. Platte hosts the Parkston Mudcats at 8 p.m. Thursday.
Mitchell 12, Tripp-Delmont 4
DELMONT — The Mitchell Mad Dogs earned their sixth win of the season after beating Tripp-Delmont 12-4 in nine innings Thursday in a Sunshine League amateur baseball game.
Joey Fitzgerald was the winning pitcher, striking out eight and walking two in six innings.
Nick Tadlock had a three-run homer, a double, four RBIs and scored twice for the Mad Dogs, who had 16 total hits.
Mitchell’s Travis Earls had three hits and scored two runs, Nolan Miller added a double, Sam Schumacher recorded two hits and had two RBIs scored twice. Logan Risse had two hits and Andy Everson added three hits.
The losing pitcher was Brandon Auch. Jared Weber had two hits and scored two runs, Tom Heisinger added a hit and scored a run and Bryce Roth had a double and scored.
Mitchell (6-1, 4-1 SL) hosts Alexandria at 5 p.m. Sunday at Cadwell Park in Mitchell. Tripp-Delmont plays the Parkston Bullheads at 2 p.m. Sunday in Parkston.
Dimock/Emery 10, Mount Vernon 2
EMERY — Dimock/Emery topped Mount Vernon 10-2 Thursday in a Sunshine League amateur baseball game.
Josh Engquist was the winning pitcher, giving up two earned runs on four hits while striking out 11 in seven innings. Kyle Larson had six strikeouts in the final two innings. Doug Sudbeck and Sam Pischke each recorded two hits for the Raptors.
The losing pitcher was Eric Denning. Denning also had two hits.
The Raptors (10-3) host Corsica/Stickney at 5 p.m. Sunday in Dimock, while Mount Vernon (0-3) hosts Platte at 5 p.m. Sunday.
