Amateur baseball roundup: Fitzgerald throws no-hitter for Mad Dogs
Joey Fitzgerald threw a no-hitter for the Mitchell Mad Dogs in a 10-0 win in seven innings over the Platte Killer Tomatoes Thursday at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.
Fitzgerald struck out 12 batters, while giving up one walk in the win. He added a two-run double at the plate.
Andy Everson finished with two hits, an RBI and scored twice for Mitchell, while Darrin Hager added two hits and two runs.
Hayden Kuiper took the loss on the mound for Platte.
The Mad Dogs (9-3, 7-3 Sunshine League) play the Parkston Mudcats at 5 p.m. Sunday at Cadwell Park.
Wessington Springs 3, Four Corners 0
WESSINGTON SPRINGS -- Adam Kaus threw a complete game shutout for the Wessington Springs amateur baseball team in a 3-0 win over Four Corners Thursday in Wessington Springs.
Kaus threw all nine innings, allowing six hits and struck out four. Tyler Waddle finished with three hits, including a double, while Kaus and Anthony Wahl added two hits.
The Owls (4-4, 3-0 Pony Hills) play Redfield at 7:30 p.m. today in Wessington Springs.
Alexandria 10, Tripp/Delmont 1
TRIPP -- The Alexandria Angels beat Tripp/Delmont 10-1 in Sunshine League action Thursday in Tripp.
The Angels were led by Cory Marek and Tyson Gau, who each finished with two hits and two RBIs. Chet McManus added two hits in the win.
Marek picked up the win on the mound. He pitched five innings, allowing four hits and struck out six.
The Angels play a doubleheader Sunday with a game against the Parkston Bullheads at 2 p.m. and a second against Tripp/Delmont at 5 p.m. Both games are in Alexandria.
Dimock/Emery 8, Wynot 3
EMERY -- The No. 3 Dimock/Emery amateur baseball team topped No. 4 Wynot 8-3 Thursday in Emery.
Kyle Larson picked up the win on the mound, going six innings, allowing one run on six hits and striking out six.
Jason Schmidt finished with three hits for the Raptors, including a double, while Phil Johnson added two hits, including a double and three RBIs. Sam Pischke added two hits in the win.
The Raptors (16-5) play Corsica/Stickney at 5 p.m. Sunday in Corsica.
Plankinton 13, Chamberlain 0
CHAMBERLAIN -- The Plankinton amateur baseball team topped Chamberlain 13-0 in seven innings Thursday in Chamberlain.
Tyler Fernau pitched the shutout, allowing two hits and striking out seven for Plankinton. Josh Geppert finished with a double and three RBIs, while Jeremy Pischke added two hits and two RBIs.
Plankinton (12-8, 6-1 Pony Hills) hosts a doubleheader Sunday and will be holding a fundraiser for Wessington Springs tornado relief. The free-will donation starts at 4:30 p.m. at the ballpark in Plankinton and will include food and drink.
The doubleheader starts at 3 p.m. against Miller, with a game against Wessington Springs at 7 p.m.
