Amateur baseball roundup: Angels come out swinging, top Mad Dogs 12-2
The Sunshine League-leading Alexandria amateur baseball team scored twice in the first inning and six in the second to pull away from Mitchell in a 12-2 win Tuesday at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.
Cory Marek pitched for the Angels and won the game, which ended in seven innings. He threw six innings, allowing no earned runs on four hits and struck out seven.
Marek added a 3-for-5 night at the plate, with two RBIs, while Chris Marek went 3-for-4 with three RBIs for Alexandria, which remained unbeaten in league play this season.
Nick Pecha took the loss on the mound for Mitchell. He pitched 3 ⅓ innings, allowing 10 runs, eight earned, on eight hits and struck out two.
Andy Everson, Jason Skinner and Tyler Earls each went 1-for-3 for the Mad Dogs in the loss.
Alexandria (10-1, 6-0 Sunshine League) plays the Parkston Mudcats at 8 p.m. Thursday in Parkston, while Mitchell (7-2, 5-2 Sunshine League) plays Corsica/Stickney at 8 p.m. Thursday in Corsica.
Plankinton 11, Kimball/White Lake 6
WHITE LAKE — Plankinton topped Kimball/White Lake 11-6 in a Pony Hills League matchup Tuesday in White Lake.
Travis Gant picked up the win on the mound for Plankinton. He pitched three innings in relief, allowing one run on four hits and striking out six.
Chris Hill hit a home run for the Bankers and finished with two RBIs, while Jeremy Nedved added two RBIs. Gant And Trevor Salmonson each added a double.
Brian Zeman took the loss for K/WL, allowing four earned runs and he did not record an out in relief.
Plankinton (10-7, 4-1 PH) hosts Winner/Colome at 8 p.m. Friday.
